Aggies Close Regular Season in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Returning to action on a windy and unusually mild Saturday in Arizona, NM State took part in the Desert Heat Classic, serving as its regular season finale. Along the way, a trio of Aggies posted top-three finishes, joined by a smattering of new personal records and season bests. Following the conclusion of the meet, NM State now looks ahead to the CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held May 10-12 in El Paso, Texas.
 
Top-Three Finishes
- Rebecca Green, Shot put, 16.20m (3rd)
- Aliyah Logan, 100m hurdles, 13.24 (3rd)
- Jordan Torres, 3000m steeplechase, 11:24.02 (2nd)
 
Track Headlines
Kicking off the track portion of competition in the late afternoon, Aliyah Logan recorded the top finish among the Crimson & White, crossing the line with a time of 13.24 seconds to take third overall.
 
Freshman led the way for the Aggies in the 1500m run, with Nia Allison recording a personal best after posting a mark of 4:45.65, while fellow first year Marlene Mosqueda recording a time of 4:55.41.
 
Sierra Brewer paced NM State in the 100m dash, recording a new personal best time of 11.67. As well, Grace Pendarvis recorded a season best in the event with a time of 11.83.
 
Over in the 400m hurdles, T'Erica Boyd tallied a season best, posting a time of 1:02.40.
 
Later in the evening, Sierra Brewer once again posted a new personal best, this time in the 200m. The Oklahoma City native recorded a final time of 23.95.
 
The lone NM State entrant in the 3000m steeplechase, Jordan Torres crossed the line in second place with a time of 11:24.02, a new personal best.
 
Field Headlines
Makiya Moore claimed the top spot for the Aggies in the hammer throw, finishing in ninth place with a new personal best of 54.87 meters (180-0"). Alongside Moore, Iysis Tellez-Briggs (47.62m [156-2"]) and Kamryn Cadle (46.27m [151-9"]) posted personal bests in the afternoon.
 
In the discus, freshman Ladina Kobler posted a new personal best of 45.97m (150-10"), which ranks as the tenth-best mark in Conference USA this season.
 
Taking part in the shot put, Los Alamos native Rebecca Green recorded her fifth top-five finish this season, finishing in third place with a mark of 16.20m (53-1.75").
 
UP NEXT
Following the conclusion of their regular season, the Aggies will enjoy a week off from competition ahead of the the 2024 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held May 10-12 in El Paso, Texas, hosted by UTEP. NM State is looking to win their second consecutive outdoor championship, claiming the 2023 title as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
