LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Aggies dropped their first game at Presley Askew Field since Mar. 17, 9-3 to conference foe Liberty on April 5. NM State tallied just four hits in the season opener.

Josh Sharman started on the mound for the Aggies and managed to hold the Flames scoreless in the first. The Flames were able to get two hits and runners on second and third, but Sharman got himself out of the jam by forcing a fly out to end the inning.

With the Aggies' first chance with the bats Keith Jones II blasted a solo home run to right field to put the Aggies up by one. This was Jones' sixth homer of the season. The lead would not last long as the Flames managed to knock a solo shot of their own to even the score.

In the third inning, Romeo Ballesteros was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After a Titus Dumitru walk Ballesteros advanced to second. Ballesteros would then steal third and managed to score on a bad throw by the Flames pitcher.

Both teams went scoreless in the fourth. At the top of the fifth, the Flames added two runs. The first run was scored on another solo home run. After the home run, Sharman was replaced by Hayden Lewis.

With a single and a hit by pitch the Flames managed to put two on. The runner then advanced to third on a fly out to right field. After that the Flames second baseman hit an RBI single to put the Aggies up one.

The Aggies managed to tie the game up in the sixth on an RBI double hit down the right field line by Damone Hale, his fourth of the season. This would be the Aggies third and final run of the night.
