Regular Season Finale Set for Don Kirby Elite Invitational

NM State makes last trek to Albuquerque ahead of CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Enjoying a week off from action, the Aggies return to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico. Day one begins on Friday, Feb. 14, at approximately 11:00 a.m, with day two slated for a 9:00 a.m. start time. Fans can follow along with the action live on FloSports, with live results available at this link.
 
The Starting Line
  • The Aggies return to the Duke City after a week away from competition for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. The two-day meet is slated to begin with the long jump at 11:00 a.m. MT on Friday, with the second day of action starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. MT.
  • NM State will compete alongside programs such as Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, Louisville, Stanford, Washington, Virginia Tech and host New Mexico among others.
  • As a team, the Crimson & White will compete in 14 events: 60m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 60m Hurdles, 4x400m relay, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw.

Dual Sport Star
  • Sophomore Marlee Cavitt is set to continue her track & field career with NM State after transferring from the University of Portland last summer. In one of the most unique situations in the nation, Cavitt is also a member of the NM State Soccer team, becoming a pivotal member of the backline defense in her debut season. Playing and starting all 20 contests, the Sacramento, Calif., native finished third on the team in minutes played (1,575).
  • Cavitt competes in short sprint events for the Aggies, currently ranking inside the top-10 in the conference in the 60m dash (10th) and 200m dash (8th).
 
One Year Ago… | Don Kirby Invitational | 2.9-10.24
  • Jhana Downie was the lone Aggie in action for the 200m dash; competing with a pair of runners from the University of Oregon, the senior topped her heat with a time of 23.63 – good for seventh overall.
  • On Saturday afternoon, the final day of the Don Kirby Invitational, Aliyah Logan blazed down the track, finishing with a time of 8.21 to best her own school record for the second time this season. This became the fifth school record to be broken in five indoor meets for the Aggies
  • Nia Allison led a trio of Aggies to set personal bests in the 800m, posting a time of 2:20.03 to finish second in her heat.
