NM State Drops Series Opener in College Station

Mitch Namie extends hit streak to 13 games.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The NM State baseball team struggled on Friday night, falling 19-0 to No. 14 Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park. The home Aggies' offense proved too much for the visiting Aggies to handle, while Texas A&M's pitching stifled NM State's bats throughout the contest.

Texas A&M (8-5) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning before adding four more in the second. NM State (7-6) starter Jack Turner ran into trouble early as three walks and a costly error by the Aggie defense led to multiple runs crossing the plate. Turner ultimately lasted 2.2 innings, surrendering 10 runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks.

Reliever Connor Wylde replaced Turner but struggled as well as a grand slam in the fourth inning further extended Texas A&M's lead, putting the game out of reach for NM State.

Offensively, NM State struggled to generate momentum against Texas A&M starter Ryan Prager, who tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out seven. NM State had its best chance to score in the fourth inning when Mitch Namie and Brandon Forrester singled, but a groundout ended the threat.

Despite the result, NM State did see some bright spots from the bullpen. Reliever Jake Carvajal provided two innings of work, allowing only one run on three hits to close out the contest.

NUMBERS OF NOTE
•    With a base knock in the fourth inning, Mitch Namie now has a hit in every game this season – extending his streak to 13 games. Including the back end of the 2024 campaign, Namie now has a hit in his last 15 games.

•    Brandon Forrester joined Namie as the only other Aggie with a hit to move his total to a team-best 20 hits for the year.
