Aggies Ink Proven Scorer in Jemel Jones

Jones was named Big West Newcomer of the Year and garnered Second Team All-Conference honors this past season.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - On Monday evening, Jemel Jones made it official that he will be in Crimson & White this upcoming fall for the Aggies. 

Jones spent his junior season at California State Bakersfield before transferring to NM State.

2024-25 (CSU Bakersfield) 

  • Appeared in all 33 games, starting in 26. 

  • Made his Division I debut vs. California (Nov. 4), posting 22 points (9-15 FG), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 34 minutes. 

  • Broke the CSUB single-game scoring record with 45 points (12-22 FG, 6-11 3FG, 13-16 FT) in a win over CSUN (Jan. 11), surpassing Kenny Warren's 40-point mark set in 1993. 

  • Surpassed Kaleb Higgins' single-season DI scoring record (573 points) at Cal Poly on Mar. 1. 

  • Set CSUB DI single-season scoring average record with 18.9 points per game. 

  • Broke the all-time CSUB field goals made record (237), surpassing CSUB's only NBA Draft pick ever Kebu Stewart. 

  • Scored in double figures in 29 of 33 games; scored 15+ in 20 contests and 20+ in 13 contests. 

  • Named Big West Player of the Week (Mar. 3) after averaging 25.5 points over two games, including a buzzer-beater vs. Long Beach State in a 37-point effort. 

  • Earned All-Big West Second Team and Big West Newcomer of the Year honors. 

  • Averaged 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists in 27.0 minutes per game. 

  • Shot 47.8% from the field, 35.2% from three-point range, and 85.7% from the free-throw line. 

2023-24 (South Suburban College) 

  • Led the nation in scoring with 33.6 points per game. 

  • Also averaged 9.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 3.7 steals per game. 

  • Shot 55.5% from the floor. 

  • Totaled 1,245 points (1st in the nation), 122 steals (1st), 362 rebounds (2nd), and 207 assists (3rd). 

  • Scored a season-high 56 points vs. Bosco Institute and had a 51-point game vs. Black Hawk College-Moline. 

  • Registered 23 double-doubles and three triple-doubles. 

  • Five 40+ point performances. 

  • Helped lead the Bulldogs to a 34-3 record. 

  • Finished the season ranked 1st nationally in points, points per game, and defensive rebounds (273). 

  • Accumulated a two-year JUCO career total of 1,999 points.
