LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State women's golf team is set to open play at its second tournament of the young fall season as they travel to Vail, Colo., to compete in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic hosted by Golfweek Magazine at Red Sky Golf Club.
The 54-hole, three-day event will see teams play 18 holes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday's opening round will start at 9:50 a.m. MT with the Aggies playing alongside competitors from LSU, Pepperdine and Denver.
AGGIE LINEUP
In Colorado, the Aggies will be represented by
Alexandria Armendariz,
Emma Thompson,
Marley Moncada,
Sophia Luna and
Rylee Salome. Notably, the Aggies will be without standout senior
Emma Bunch, who will be getting ready to compete in the LPGA Q-Series Pre-Qualifying Stage in Argyle, Texas, on Sept. 23-26.
THE FIELD
This week, the Aggies' 19 counterparts will be Arizona, Boise State, Campbell, Charlotte, Denver, Eastern Michigan, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Kansas, Little Rock, LSU, Mercer, Miami, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, Southern California, UC Irvine and UNC Asheville.
THE COURSE
The Aggies will play the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club. Tom Fazio's spectacular design merges spectacular vistas of Vail's Back Bowls with a variety of terrain to gratify players of all skill levels. Players will make their way through open sage covered hills, dense aspen forest and around a highland lake. Fazio's design team has taken particular care to maintain the site's indigenous vegetation, relocating more than 23,000 native plants into nurseries for re-planting throughout the course.
