Luna Leads Aggies on Opening Day of Golfweek Red Sky Classic

VAIL, Colo.  – The NM State women's golf team continued its 2025-26 season on Monday as they teed off at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic hosted at the Fazio Course in Vail, Colo. Following the opening round of play which featured a brief weather delay, the Aggies sit in 15th place among a competitive field of 20 teams.
 
The Aggies posted a team score of 300 (+12) in the first round, while posting a combined total of 14 birdies, including a team-high four birdies from Sophia Luna.
 
Individually, NM State was led by sophomore Sophia Luna, who carded a 73 (+1) to finish the day in a tie for 33rd. Emma Thompson followed closely with a 74 (+2) to sit in a tie for 43rd, while Alexandria Armendariz added a 75 (+3) to the team total and is currently tied for 48th. Freshman Rylee Salome continued her young collegiate campaign and shot a 78 (+6) to end the die in a tie for 75th, and senior Marley Moncada rounded out the lineup with a 79 (+7), good for a tie for 82nd.
 
The Aggies will return to the course on Tuesday morning for the second round, looking to climb the leaderboard which is paced by LSU with a 274 (-14).
