Aggies Drop Road Match at Grand Canyon

NM State will take on Wichita State in a neutral site match tomorrow in Tempe.

NM State 1, Grand Canyon 6
The New Mexico State men's tennis team continued its road swing on Friday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Grand Canyon at the GCU Tennis Facility in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Lopes claimed the doubles point after earning victories on courts one and two. Grand Canyon secured a 6-3 win on court one, followed by a 6-2 decision on court two to take an early 1-0 lead. The Aggies' pairing of Laurendi Fischer and Patrick Lohmann was locked in a tight battle on court three before the match was left unfinished at 5-5.

NM State picked up its lone point of the day at the top of the singles lineup, as Roko Stipetic delivered a gritty three-set victory on court one over GCU's Andreas Loizas. Stipetic opened the match with a 6-4 first-set win before dropping the second set, 6-4, and rebounded in the super tiebreak to earn a 10-7 decision over Andreas Loizas.

The remaining singles matches were claimed by Grand Canyon. Holland Snell fell in straight sets on court two, while Laurendi Fischer, Thomas Duforets and Patrick Lohmann each battled on courts four through six. On court three, Lance Urlaub was forced to retire from his match.
