Aggies Battle Past Northern Arizona for First Win of the Spring Season

NM State scraps in singles to earn hard-fought 4-3 victory.

NM State 4, Northern Arizona 3
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NM State earned its first win of the spring season today, grinding out a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Northern Arizona at the NAU Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Aggies showed resilience and composure in singles play, battling through multiple three-set matches to secure the win.

The Aggies found themselves in an early hole after doubles action, as Northern Arizona claimed wins on courts one and two to take the opening point. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Nadia Nemeth and Anna Klimova was left unfinished.

NM State responded with determination in singles, starting with a straight-set win from Anna Klimova at the No. 6 position to get the Aggies on the board. Whitney Moon followed with a gritty comeback at No. 3 singles, rebounding after dropping the opening set to earn a three-set victory and even the match score.

Anna Pinaieva continued the momentum for NM State at the No. 2 spot, battling through a tightly contested three-set match to give the Aggies their third point of the day. With the match tied 3-3, all eyes turned to the No. 5 singles court.

Emma Petton delivered in the clutch, overcoming an opening-set loss to rally for a three-set win at No. 5 singles, clinching the match for the Aggies and sealing the program's first victory of the season. Nadia Nemeth and Montana Parkinson-Lubold also competed in tough matches at the top of the lineup for NM State.
