NM State Drops Two at Sun Devil Classic

Aragon’s all-around impact highlights Saturday effort

TEMPE, Ariz. – NM State wrapped up its Saturday action at the Sun Devil Classic with a pair of gritty contests against Southern Utah and Arizona State. The Aggies produced key offensive moments in both games but ultimately came up short in each matchup.

Game 1 – Southern Utah 6, NM State 5 (8 Inn.)

NM State pushed the game into extras behind a late rally that included an RBI single from Madi Bachman and a sacrifice fly from Joleeanna Hair to tie things in the seventh. Faith Aragon led the offense with two hits and also threw 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts to keep the Aggies within reach. Southern Utah ultimately plated the winning run on a wild pitch in the eighth.

Game 2 – Arizona State 9, NM State 1 (5 Inn.)

The Aggies generated six hits against a strong ASU lineup, highlighted by a fifth‑inning double from Devin Elam that set up NM State's lone run on a Skye Johnson RBI double. Violet Redondo and Kendal Lunar added singles as the lineup continued to apply pressure late. Destiny Perez provided a bright spot in relief, working 2.1 scoreless innings with no hits allowed.
