LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State completed a dominant weekend with a 16–1 run‑rule victory over Prairie View A&M on Sunday at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium, sweeping the series. The Aggies scored in each of the first four innings and piled up 14 hits in the seven‑inning win.
NM State jumped ahead early as
Boston Vest singled and scored on a
Steve Solorzano RBI double in the first. The Aggies blew the game open with a four‑run second, highlighted by a Taclas RBI, a two‑RBI single from Solorzano and a
Bryce Campbell sacrifice fly. A six‑run fourth, powered by a two‑RBI double from
Chris Daniels and a bases-clearing double from
Brandon Clizbe, stretched the lead to 13–1.
NM State added three more in the sixth on RBI hits from Clizbe,
Tommy Meluskey and
Aidan Lombardi, pushing the score to 16-1. On the mound,
Jack Turner earned the win with 3.2 shutout innings and six strikeouts, while
Bradyn Barnes allowed just one run over the first three frames.
The victory sealed a dominant sweep for the Aggies, who outscored Prairie View A&M 35–9 over the weekend.
NOTABLES
- The singular run scored by the Panthers on Sunday marked the fewest by a Aggie opponent since April 25, 2025, when the Aggies earned a 6-1 win over Middle Tennessee.
- Steve Solorzano turned in his first three-hit performance of the season and his four multi-hit games are now tied with Cole Rogers, Bryce Campbell and Chris Daniels for most by an Aggie this season.
- Brandon Clizbe submitted a career-high four RBIs and marked the first multi-hit game of his career. Including a three-RBI showing on Tuesday, he now has seven RBIs in his last two games.
- Boston Vest recorded the third three-hit game of his collegiate career.
- 16 runs for the Aggies is the second most in a game this season and is the third time that the Aggies have posted double-digit runs this year.
- NM State pitching combined for 10 strikeouts to mark the fourth time this year it has posted 10 or more strikeouts.
