DALLAS – NM State grabbed an early lead Friday at Horner Ballpark, but DBU's power and big innings proved too much as the Aggies fell in the conference opener 14-2.
The Aggies took the first lead of the game as they went up 1-0 in the second on
Jonatan Clough's RBI double. However, DBU answered with a two‑run home run from Jake Bennett in the third and added two more in the fifth to build a 4-1 advantage. NM State threatened in the fifth and sixth but stranded runners both times.
DBU broke the game open with a five‑run seventh and added four more in the eighth, powered by Bennett's second long ball and a Cooper Neville blast. NM State's final tally came in the eighth when
Aidan Lombardi launched a solo home run. NM State finished with four hits and will return for game two of the weekend series on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT.
