EL PASO, Texas – NM State began its outdoor season with a Borderland competition, traveling to Kidd Field to partake in the Miners Invitational, hosted by UTEP. The Aggies put together a strong start to the season, with a mix of high-placing results and top personal marks.
DAY ONE
Presley Edwards made her NM State debut in the javelin toss, securing first place with a best mark of 44.35 meters (145-6"). This becomes the eighth furthest distance in program history. Senior
Kylie Rubrecht also competed for the first time this season, recording a mark of 37.08m.
First-year Aggie
Alyssa Crump tallied the top time among the Crimson & White, posting a new personal best time of 24.47 seconds. For just the second time in 2026,
Aja Johnson competed in the event, posting a new best time of 25.55.
NM State dominated the shot put, where
Alesha Lane (14.45m) took first place, while
Kamryn Cadle (2
nd, 14.22m),
Samonne Cauley (4
th, 12.23m),
Julia Nystrand (6
th),
Avery Jordan (7
th) and Elli Breckenridge (8
th, 11.18m) advanced to the finals and finished in the top-9. Cauley and Breckenridge tallied new personal bests on the day.
Aja Johnson was the lone Aggie to compete in the long jump, recording a final distance of 5.52m to finish fourth. This distance fell millimeters short of her all-time personal best (5.53m, 2026 CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships).
The 3000m steeplechase saw a trio of Aggies in competition, including the season debut of junior
Nia Allison. Making her event debut, the Katy, Texas native posted an altitude-adjusted mark of 11:08.74 to tally a first-place finish and the eighth-fastest mark in school history.
Jordan Torres (11:23.33@) and
Murrie Dodge (11:52.03@) rounded out the top three in the event.
Adéla Steinsová translated her strong indoor campaign to outdoor competition, taking first place in the 1500m with an altitude-adjusted time of 4:41.65. Eloïse Stuart finished just behind with a time of 4:42.06@ to take second, while
Angela Korte rounded out the Aggies in the event with a ninth-place finish.
The event with the most Crimson & White entrants was the 5000m, as seven Aggies took to the starting line. Freshman and Albuquerque native
Brooke Kelly finished with the top time in the event, recording an altitude-adjusted time of 18:41.40. Fellow freshman and Albuquerque native
Abigail Beam finished second with a time of 18:48.67@. Running unattached,
Khloi Bird (3
rd, 18:51.40@) and Melany Mosqueda (5
th, 20:20.13@) posted top-five finishes.
Men's Events
A select group of men's cross country runners competed in El Paso, including Thomas Croshaw, finishing second in the 1500m with an altitude-adjusted time of 3:51.63. Derick Castellanos (4:01.68@) added a top-five finish.
In the 5000m, sophomore Orion Chavez finished second with a time of 14:37.93@ while Leo Valenzuela (14:47.33@) took third. Las Cruces native Kobe Rodriguez posted a huge all-time best of 15:18.20@.
DAY TWO
Kamryn Cadle notched the event win for the Crimson & White in the hammer throw, posting a new personal best toss of 52.75m (173-1"). This became the first top finish secured by the junior as a member of NM State.
Julia Nystrand took fourth in her event debut (48.17m) as the lone freshman in the finals.
Camila Garcia Carrera and
Alesha Lane rounded out the Aggies in finals competition.
Elli Breckenridge (42.02m) and
Avery Jordan (39.61m) made their event debuts.
The NM State quartet of
Alyssa Crump,
Marlee Cavitt,
Jaylah McDonnell and
Aja Johnson competed in the 4x100m.
Shortly after the completion of the hammer throw, NM State traveled across Larry K. Durham Track at Kidd Field to compete in the discus toss. Like the hammer throw, a quartet of Aggies advanced to the final round of competition, where
Alesha Lane took first place with a best distance of 50.49m.
Freshman
Avery Jordan (42.22m) and
Julia Nystrand (41.17m) finished fourth and sixth respectively, while
Kamryn Cadle finished fifth (41.30m). Elli Breckenridge tallied a new personal best to round out the NM State competitors.
Sara McKee posted her best time in the 100m hurdles as the lone Aggie entrant, finishing fourth with a time of 14.64.
El Paso native
Aileen Alvarado recorded a standout day in her hometown, posting the top collegiate finish and a new personal best mark of 1.70m (5-7"). This moved Alvarado into a tie for fifth place in school history.
Amanda Radava returned to outdoor track competition for the first time in 21 months, taking first place in the 800m with an altitude-adjusted time of 2:09.81, the fourth-fastest outdoor time in school history. Radava was the first of four consecutive Aggies atop the events' leaderboard, as Eloïse Stuart (2:10.79), Adéla Steinsová (2:12.78) and
Angela Korte (2:19.01) finished second, third and fourth respectively. Radava, Stuart and Steinsová tallied personal bests on the day.
Marlee Cavitt earned first place in the 100m dash with a new personal best of 11.63 – the fifth-fastest time in program history – with
Alyssa Crump taking fourth (12.03) in her event debut.
Sara McKee recorded her new personal best (12.63).
Closing out the weekend's action, Eloïse Stuart,
Marlee Cavitt, Adéla Steinsová and
Amanda Radava combined for a time of 3:48.27 in the 4x400m to finish second.
In all, the Aggies totaled 37 top-ten finishes and 29 top-five finishes in the Sun City, with nine event wins.
