ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aggies continued their 2026 outdoor season in the Land of Enchantment, competing in the New Mexico Spring Invitational. Overall, the team secured six event wins and 17 podium finishes despite a limited roster for training purposes.
FRIDAY
For the first time since 2003, NM State hosted a track & field competition in Las Cruces, as the hammer throw took place at the NM State Track & Field Complex. Seven Aggies participated in the event, with
Alesha Lane taking the gold with a new personal best mark of 50.86 meters (166-10"). Freshman
Julia Nystrand tallied a runner-up finish with a mark of 49.43m (162-2"), her personal best.
Kamryn Cadle (49.30m) rounded out the top three finishers.
Camila Garcia Carrera (44.62m) tallied fourth to tie her highest collegiate finish, while
Elli Breckenridge,
Samonne Cauley and
Avery Jordan also notched new top marks.
SATURDAY
Opening Saturday's action with the javelin,
Presley Edwards followed up her first-place finish in El Paso with a second-place result in Albuquerque, while
Kylie Rubrecht took fourth overall.
The NM State quartet of
Alyssa Crump,
Marlee Cavitt,
Jaylah McDonnell and
Aja Johnson competed in the 4x100m, posting a season-opening time of 45.75 seconds to finish second overall.
Senior
Aileen Alvarado recorded the top collegiate finish for the second weekend in a row, finishing first in the high jump with a mark of 1.62m (5-3.75").
Alesha Lane added her second event win of the weekend in the discus toss, posting a season-best throw of 50.59m (166-0").
Kamryn Cadle finished second with a new personal best of 45.13m, while freshman
Avery Jordan took third with a distance of 41.79m.
Elli Breckenridge tallied a new personal best in the event for the second consecutive weekend.
Sara McKee claimed the top time in the 100m hurdles, earning her first collegiate event win with a new personal best mark of 14.32 seconds.
Junior
Marlee Cavitt continues to be a dominant short sprinter for the Crimson & White, taking first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.54. This new personal best moves Cavitt into third place in school history, behind Latoya Johnson (11.50) and
Jhana Downie (11.44).
Alyssa Crump recorded the fastest time in her heat with a new personal best of 11.99, while
Sara McKee also posted a new top time.
Later in the afternoon, Crump (24.74) and
Jaylah McDonnell (24.97) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200m.
Alesha Lane rounded out her impressive weekend with a first-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a new outdoor personal best of 15.20m (49-10.50").
Kamryn Cadle recorded her second consecutive runner-up finish in the event (14.55m), as
Julia Nystrand tallied a new personal best to finish third (13.52m).
Samonne Cauley and
Elli Breckenridge posted new top marks in the event.
The 4x400 team of
Alyssa Crump,
Jaylah McDonnell,
Sara McKee and
Aja Johnson closed the weekend's action, finishing second overall.
In all, the Aggies totaled six event wins, 17 top-three results and 15 personal bests.
UP NEXT
NM State begins split competition, as the distance and throws group travels west to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, and the sprints group heads east for the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational. Action begins Wednesday, April 1.
