LAS CRUCES, N.M. – UTSA used a seven‑run fifth inning to take control Saturday night at Presley Askew Fiel at Johnson Stadium as NM State fell 13-0. The Roadrunners ultimately recorded 14 hits, while the Aggie offense tallied just three.
UTSA's decisive fifth featured seven runs on seven hits, followed by a two‑run sixth and a two‑run homer from Drew Detlefsen in the seventh to stretch the lead. Conor Myles stifled NM State over 5.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts.
The Aggies' three hits came from
Steve Solorzano,
Tommy Meluskey and
Cole Rogers, but NM State could not capitalize on limited opportunities, finishing 0‑for‑5 with runners in scoring position.
JT Price took the loss, and four Aggie pitchers saw action in the setback.
Jack Turner did manage to post an immaculate inning in the second, using just nine pitches to retire a trio of Roadrunners.
NOTABLES
- Steve Solorzano's double in the sixth inning was his seventh of the season – mark that paces the Aggies. This also gives him exactly half of his total from last season.
- Tommy Meluskey extended his hitting streak to a team-high seven games. This is also one game shy of matching Bryce Campbell's for the longest hit streak by any Aggie this season. Meluskey has also now reached base in 10 consecutive games.
- Jack Turner has now recorded three or more strikeouts in each of his four outings this season after tallying five strikeouts on Saturday.
- The loss marked the Aggies' first home Saturday loss of the season, falling to 2-1 on the year.
