Aggies Win Back-and-Forth Battle to Outlast LA Tech

Seven-run sixth inning powers NM State past the Bulldogs

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In a back‑and‑forth matchup at the NM State Softball Complex on Saturday, NM State and LA Tech traded early surges until the Aggies mounted a late rally to secure a high‑scoring win. After falling behind in the opening frame, NM State answered with a six‑run second inning and later completed a dramatic seven‑run rally in the sixth.  

Game – NM State 15, LA Tech 14 

Down 4–0 after the top of the first, NM State responded forcefully with a six‑run second powered by a grand slam from Devin Elam and a two‑run homer from Tamara Carranza. Trailing 14–8 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Aggies mounted a decisive seven‑run comeback, capped by key swings from Kendal Lunar, Mackenzie Jones, Madi Bachman, and Destan Burks, who delivered the go‑ahead RBI double. Faith Aragon handled the seventh inning to secure the win as NM State improved to 2–0 in Conference USA play. 

NOTABLES 

  • Devin Elam went 2‑for‑4 with 5 RBIs, including a grand slam to tie the game early. 

  • Skye Johnson tallied four hits, three runs, and added a solo home run, marking her first career home run. 

  • Tamara Carranza drove in two and supplied a two‑run homer during the second‑inning surge. 

  • Madi Bachman homered in the sixth, marking her first career homerun, and finished with two hits and an RBI. 

  • Kendal Lunar sparked the pivotal sixth‑inning rally with a two‑run double. 

  • Destan Burks produced the go‑ahead RBI double in the sixth. 

  • Mackenzie Jones reached on a two‑run error during the sixth, helping extend the Aggies' momentum. 

NEXT UP 

NM State closes out its Conference USA opening weekend on Sunday as the Aggies wrap up the three‑game set against LA Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the NM State Softball Complex as NM State looks to complete the series sweep.
