JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – After a momentous victory on Friday night, NM State fell 4-0 at Jax State on Saturday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. With the loss, the Aggies drop to 18-23 overall and 8-12 in league play.
NM State struggled to get things going in the second game of the weekend series, recording just one hit over the first three innings. During this same stretch, Jax State was able to produce four runs. In the second, the Gamecocks tallied a pair of runs on a triple to move in front early.
Then in the third, Jax State took advantage of an Aggie error and produced another two runs to move ahead 4-0 through three innings. From there, neither side could do much damage as both teams combined to record eight hits and no runs over the final five innings.
The pitcher's duel went to Jax State starter Beau Bryans who tossed 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters. Meanwhile,
Jack Turner turned in one of his best efforts of the season, throwing 7.0 innings, while allowing three earned runs and striking out five Gamecocks.
NOTABLES
- With his outing on Saturday, Turner became just the second Aggie starter this season to throw more than five innings in a start this season, joining Connor Wylde who threw six innings in the Friday night matchup against the Gamecocks.
- Saturday marked just the second time this season that the Aggies were shutout.
- Jonatan Clough and Chris Daniels both extended their hit streaks to nine games, marking the longest active streak by any Aggies.
- Aggie lead off hitters finished the game 4-for-9; however, NM State was just 1-for-12 with runners on.
- The loss ends a three-game road winning streak for the Aggies.
