NM State 2, New Mexico 4
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – NM State came up short in the Battle of I-25 this afternoon, falling 4-2 to New Mexico in Albuquerque.
The Lobos opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Roko Stipetic and Tobias Wallin, along with Laurendi Fischer and Patrick Lohmann, both dropped their respective matches as New Mexico jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The third doubles match featuring Holland Snell and Lance Urlaub went unfinished.
In singles play, New Mexico extended its advantage with wins on courts one, two and four to reach the brink of victory. Tobias Wallin and Holland Snell were both defeated in straight sets on the top two courts, while Roko Stipetic also fell on court four.
The Aggies showed resilience late in the match, picking up a pair of points. Lance Urlaub earned a win by retirement on court five, while Patrick Lohmann delivered a straight-set victory on court six to cut into the deficit. Matias Rojas was in the middle of his match on court three when play was halted.
Despite the late push, the early deficit proved too much to overcome as NM State dropped the rivalry matchup, 4-2.
