LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State Athletics announced today a three-year contract extension for Women's Golf Head Coach
Danny Bowen, securing the program's leader for the future as he enters his 10th season at the helm of the Aggies.
Bowen, the fourth head coach in program history and a former NM State standout, has sustained the program's tradition of competitive and academic excellence since taking over in 2017-18.
NM State Director of Athletics Joe Fields praised Bowen's sustained impact on the program:
"We are thrilled to announce the extension of Coach Bowen, whose outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication have elevated our women's golf program in remarkable ways," Fields said. "He is a proven leader and an exceptional mentor to our student-athletes, and I am confident he will continue to guide Aggie Women's Golf to championships and sustained success in the years ahead."
Head Coach Danny Bowen on the opportunity to continue to guide the Aggie program:
"I'm very grateful to continue to lead and build on the program we have here at New Mexico State," Bowen stated. "Our new administration has confidence in our vision for success and it's going to be an exciting time to be an Aggie in coming years!"
During his tenure, Bowen has guided the Aggies to three conference championships, including back-to-back WAC titles in 2021 and 2022, along with multiple NCAA Regional appearances.
This season, he also coached Aggie standout
Emma Bunch to an appearance in the NCAA Stanford Regional, where she earned individual qualification for the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Championship. As a team, the Aggies capped off the 2025-26 campaign with a third-place finish at the Conference USA Championship.
Under Bowen's leadership, NM State has consistently finished among the top teams in its conferences while also excelling in the classroom. During his tenure, the Aggies have seen at least one student-athlete earn WGCA Scholar All-American honors, extending the program's streak to 18 consecutive seasons.
A native of Albuquerque, Bowen has deep ties to the Aggies, having competed for NM State from 2002-06 before returning to serve five seasons as an assistant coach.
