LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State and Liberty battled through a rare, weather‑affected weekend on Saturday at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium, completing a suspended series opener from Friday night before taking the field again for a tightly contested second game later in the evening. NM State ultimately dropped both games, with the Flames winning the opener 15-4 ahead of taking the second game by a score of 9-7. The Aggies now hold an overall record of 19-2 with a Conference USA mark of 8-15.
Friday's opener was stopped after four innings due to rain, with the score tied at 3-3 as play was suspended. When the game resumed Saturday, the Flames quickly took control with a run in the fifth before recording multi-run frame in the seventh, eighth and ninth. The Aggies would manufacture a run in the seventh; however, they could not keep pace, getting outscored 11-1 over the final five innings to fall in the opener.
Following the completion of game one, NM State regrouped quickly for the scheduled second game of the day and delivered an inspired effort. The Aggies traded runs throughout the early innings and produced three runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage.
The defining moment of the nightcap came late, as NM State received multi-hit performances from six different Aggies to help build a 7-3 lead entering the seventh inning. From there, Liberty would manage three runs in both the seventh and ninth innings to secure the come-from-behind victory.
