SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – NM State came up short for the second straight morning in Springfield, falling 9-1 to Missouri State on Saturday morning at Route 66 as the Aggies tallied five hits. Following the defeat, NM State drops to 19-30 overall and 8-18 in Conference USA play.
Missouri State opened the scoring in the second inning and seized control with a four‑run third, highlighted by a three‑run home run. The Bears added two more in the fifth to extend the lead and another pair in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
NM State broke through in the seventh when
Easton Rulli singled and later scored on an RBI single from
Noah Massey, accounting for the Aggies' lone run of the game. NM State stranded multiple runners throughout the contest, finishing with five hits and leaving 10 on base.
Jack Turner took the loss after five innings on the mound, while
Fabian Ibarra and
Cade Shumard combined for three innings of relief to close out the game.
NOTABLES
- Noah Massey recorded the third hit and second RBI of his freshman campaign. Saturday also marked the first multi-hit game of his young career.
- Steve Solorzano extended his hitting streak to 11 games, marking the longest active streak by any Aggie.
- Tommy Meluskey has now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games to mark the longest active streak by any Aggie.
- With a five-inning outing, Jack Turner has now thrown at least 5.0 innings in each of his last three starts after doing so just twice in his first 10 starts of the year.
- NM State will enter Sunday looking to avoid its fifth sweep of the season.
