2010 (Sophomore): Burns earned second team All-WAC honors as a sophomore after she led the Aggies in points (20), shots (40), shots on goal (17), assists (8) and game-winning goals (3). She ranked second in goals (6) and played in 17 matches and started in 14 contests. Burns was named Verizon WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors (Sept. 20) after she scored four goals and added three assists in an 8-0 win over Alabama A&M (Sept. 17) and 4-0 win over Lamar (Sept. 19). Against Alabama A&M, she scored two goals and added an assist, including her second game-winning goal of the season. It was her first-ever multiple-goal contest at NM State. In the win over Lamar, Burns tallied two goals and two assists. She opened the 2010 campaign with an assist in consecutive matches. Burns scored her first goal of the season, which was her first career game-winning goal, in the 1-0 win over North Dakota (Sept. 10). In the final non-conference match of the season, Burns scored the game-winning goal and recorded an assist in the 2-1 win at Wyoming (Sept. 26). Additionally, Burns was an Academic All-WAC team selection.
2009 (Freshman): In her first season in the Crimson and White, Burns etched her name in the NM State record books when she scored the first goal in Aggie history. She forced overtime in the home opener against Idaho State (Aug. 23) with the score at the 86:39 mark but the Aggies fell, 2-1, in double overtime. Burns started in 17 matches and appeared in all 19 contests in the inaugural season. She tied for the team-high in assists (three) and shots on goal (19), while she ranked second on the squad in goals (four), points (11) and third in shots (34). At Air Force (Sept. 6), Burns gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead, and then she recorded her first career assist on the game-winning goal that provided NM State with a 3-2 win in overtime. In NM State’s first victory in Aggie Memorial Stadium, a 3-0 shutout of Texas-Permian Basin (Sept. 16), Burns scored the third goal of the match. Against Idaho (Oct. 4), Burns recorded an assist on the goal that tied the match that NM State won 3-2. In the Aggies’ first WAC road win, 2-0, at Fresno State (Oct. 9), she tallied an assist. Versus Hawai’i (Oct. 18), Burns broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 82nd minute, which was her first score in WAC play.
High School/Club: Burns competed for three seasons at the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s Soccer Academy of Minn., where she was coached by Tim Carter and Dave Linenberger. The talented forward helped the Sabers to a Midwest Regional League Championship in the U18 First Division with a 17-1-1 record. Before Shattuck St. Mary’s, Burns attended Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy from sixth until ninth grade, where she was a member of the varsity team each season.
Personal: She was born in Olathe, Kan., and is the daughter of James Burns and Cammy Colton. Burns is majoring in nursing.
