Freshman (2007):  Arrieta made 17 appearances as a freshman and started in six of those games.  In the 62 1/3 innings he pitched Arrieta struck out 34 batters and had an ERA of 5.63.  He walked 27 batters and gave up 39 earned runs and only three home runs.  Arrieta was fourth in the WAC in runners picked off (4).  Arrieta’s best outing could very well have come in the second game of a double header against Hawai’i, April 28, when he threw for eight innings and struck out a season high five batters.  Leading the Aggies to a 9-4 victory he only gave up three walks and four earned runs.  Just before that, he threw for seven complete innings struck out two batters and walked three in a 6-4 victory over Hawai’i-Hilo (4/24).

High School: Arrieta played basketball, football and baseball for the Poteet High School Pirates and helped the baseball team to three district championships.  In the 2002-03 season, he played in the outfield and pitched for the Pirates.  The team went 8-4 that season and took fourth place in the district.  During the 2003-04 season, Arrieta helped the Pirates to an unbeaten (12-0) season.  The Pirates were district champs and regional finalists that season.  During the 2004-05 season, the Pirates played to a 9-3 finish, and were again district champions.  Arrieta assisted the Pirates to an 11-1 finish in 2005-06. The team again took the district championship and played into the regional semifinals.

Arrieta was a four-year starter and team captain for the Pirates.  He was also a two-time all-District outfielder and pitcher.  During the regional quarterfinals, Arrieta pitched a perfect game. He picked off 21 base runners his senior year, a Poteet High School record.

Personal:  Anthony was born in Dallas, Texas and is the son of George and Bibi Arrieta.  He is majoring in Business.
