Sophomore (2014): Slater made all of his 12 appearances at first base for the Aggies in 2014. He finished the season with a .167 batting percentage, two hits and a .250 slugger percentage. Slater’s best performance came against Chicago State where he finished the game with a .167 batting average and a hit. Defensively, Slater ended the season with a .923 fielding percentage.
Prior to NM State: Slater is a first and third baseman that spent two seasons at Gateway Community College (2011-12). As part of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, Slater was awarded ACCAC offensive player of the week and NICAA Academic All- American in 2012. He finished that season with a .274 batting average, 29 hits, 19 RBIs and a home run. Slater redshirted his first season at GCC.
High School: In 2010, Slater graduated in the top-five percent of his graduating class from Glencoe-Silver Lake High School located in Glencoe, Minn. He played baseball and football for the Panthers, winning baseball conference titles during his junior and senior years. Slater won the batting title for the Panthers during both his junior and senior years. As a junior, he hit .422 with 35 hits, 34 RBIs and three home runs. During his senior year, he hit .500 with 35 hits, 24 RBIs and five home runs and was the team MVP while earning all-conference and all-state accolades and earning a spot on the Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star game.
Personal: Slater is the son of Mark and Rachel Slater. His father was a football player while at Minnesota and also played six years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. Slater is majoring in business management.
