Biography

Fall 2005: Long appeared at the plate 39 times for NMSU in the fall and had a team-high 12 stolen bases with an on-base percentage of .611. While hitting only one home run, Jason did tally three doubles while scoring 17 runs and knocking in 13 more as he hit .462 to conclude the fall season.

2005 (JUNIOR): As a junior, Jason was the only Aggie to play and start in all 57 games as he hit .308 for the season and had a team high 270 total plate appearances. With a slugging percentage of .417, Long finished fifth on the team in hits (65), second in runs scored (65), third in doubles (10) and tied for second in triples (2). Jason also led the team in sacrifice bunts (6) and finished second in stolen bases (17) with a stolen base percentage of .850. In the first of a three-game series with College of the Southwest, Long had a NMSU career-high five runs scored on three hits with one double. The series against CSW also capped off a seven-game hit streak in which he had 12 hits in 26 at-bats for a .462 hitting percentage. He also scored 14 runs, brought six runs across the plate and hammered three doubles while stealing six bases. Defensively, Jason had nine putouts with 15 assists in the seven-game hitting streak. For the season he had 67 putouts with 112 assists for a fielding percentage of .918.

PREVIOUS COLLEGE: Jason comes to New Mexico State from Kansas State where he played two seasons of baseball for the Wildcats. After red shirting the 2003 season, Long started 42 of 47 games at second base and shortstop in 2004. He hit .236 with seven doubles and 13 RBI in 148 at-bats. As a sophomore last season Jason set Kansas State single season records for hit by pitch (16) and for bunt base hits (17).

HIGH SCHOOL: As a senior, Jason was named a Louisville Slugger High School All-America Infielder, earned all-state honorable mention accolades from the Daily Oklahoman and was selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Star team.

PERSONAL: Jason was born in Oklahoma City, Okla. and is the son of Jerry and Becky Long. He is majoring in Management and Pre-Health.
