Junior (2006): Gausman made 19 appearances on the mound starting 10 times and finishing the season with a 4-6 record. He pitched a total of 84.2 innings and was one of only two Aggie pitchers to pitch a complete game. Gausman struck out 63 batters; good enough for second most on the team, while 26 of those strikeouts came with the batter looking. Gausman’s first start came in a win against Utah (2/4) where he fired four innings of work and rang up a season high eight batters. He would earn his first win against Washington (2/10) where he entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and held the Huskies in check for three innings with only one hit and two strikeouts before Vince Rodden hit the game-winning RBI with two outs in the bottom of the 11th. Gausman would get his second win against Northern Iowa (3/5) where he pitched six innings and blanked four batters and gave up only three earned runs in the 13-3 win. He would pitch seven innings in consecutive starts; first against Nevada (3/26) then versus Fresno State (4/1) sitting down four batters with strikeouts in both games. Gausman got a win at Hawai’i (4/23) where he fired the ball for eight innings striking out seven batters. He would get his last win in the 2006 season pitching a complete game in the second game of a double-header against Louisiana Tech (5/13). Gausman, who gave up an early two-run homer, settled down as he finished the game with six strikeouts and just two walks. Gausman gave up just four early runs on 10 hits while throwing 125 pitches. After allowing a fourth run to score in the bottom of the fourth, Gausman retired 21 of the next 24 batters he faced to secure the victory.
Sophomore (2005): Gausman saw 43.1 innings last season in a team-high 23 games for the Aggies as he struck out 33 batters and finished with a record of 4-4, good enough for the fourth best on the team. He also finished the season tied for first on the team in saves as he recorded four and tied for first in finished game with 11. In his first appearance of the season (2/6), Brian gave up only four hits and didn?t allow a single batter to round the bases as the Aggies dropped the Gonzaga Bulldogs 5-1. He gave up two or fewer earned runs on 17 different occasions including allowing no batters to cross the plate nine different times. While facing their I-25 rival New Mexico Lobos (3/22), Gausman pitched 3.1 innings and struck out three batters as the Aggies cruised to the 8-5 victory. He then followed that performance up with three straight trips to the mound without allowing a single run and giving up only four hits as NMSU won three straight conference games over South Alabama and Western Kentucky. In his last appearance of the season, Gausman tied a career-high in strikeouts (5) in only 3.2 innings of work.
Freshman (2004): Gausman appeared in a team high 21 games as a true freshman in 2004. He started five games and posted a 7-3 overall record with two saves. Brian finished the season leading the team in opponent batting average (.265), second on the staff in ERA (5.50), third in strikeouts (40) and fourth in innings pitched (54). His 16 relief appearances are a season high among those returning to the staff in 2005.
Gausman spent much of his freshman season coming out of the bullpen, before moving to the starting rotation in late April. In his first collegiate game, Brian struck out two and allowed no earned runs in a relief appearance against College of the Southwest (1/25).
Gausman got the win in his next three appearances, against the Air Force Academy (2/8), Texas San Antonio (2/14) and Rhode Island (2/27). In the wins, Brian Posted an ERA of 4.01 and struck out four batters. Against Air Force, he allowed no runs on one hit and struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief. Against Texas San Antonio, Brian went 2.1 innings of work to improve to 3-0 on the season. Brian improved to 4-0 on the season with a win over Pace University (3/13) in the series opener. Gausman went 2.2 innings and struck out four as the Aggies edged Pace, 6-5. Brian also won his last appearance as a reliever, going three innings against New Orleans (4/18) In the win he struck out four and walked just one as the Aggies beat the Privateers, 11-8. After posting a 3.82 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 16 appearances as a reliever, Gausman moved to the starting rotation for the remainder of the season, going 2-1` in five starts. In his first start as an Aggie, Brian went 4.2 innings at Arkansas State (4/24) and struck out one as the Aggies won, 13-10. Gausman won his first game as a starter in his next appearance, going 5.1 innings against Florida International (4/30). Brian struck out a season-high five Panthers while only giving up two earned runs to improve to 6-2 on the season. Brian won his second game as a started, going seven strong innings and giving up just one earned run in a 2-1 win at Western Kentucky (5/7).
High School: Gausman attended Grandview High School where he was all-centennial League his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was a first team all-state pick as a senior and finished in the top 10 in the state in strikeouts.
Personal: Brian was born in Denver, Colorado, and is the son of Clair and Jo Gausman. He is majoring in Secondary Education.
