Biography

Sophomore (2014): Carswell played in 29 games and started in 21 of those games at catcher, while he also worked 5.0 innings on the mound for the Aggies in 2014.  He finished the season with a .260 batting average and also hit one home run to go along with 16 RBI and eight walks.  Carswell finished the year with three strikeouts while on the mound for the Aggies.  During 2014 Western Athletic Conference play he upped his batting average to .271 while coming up with 10 RBI, six walks and two sacrifice flies.  He hit the ball even better when playing at Presley Askew Field posting a .294 batting average during home games.  His first start of the season was on Feb. 22 versus SIU-Edwardsville when he went 2-of-5 at the plate helping the NM State squad to a doubleheader sweep.  Carswell went 2-of-2 against No. 30 Texas Tech on March 8 as the Aggies fell 8-7 in 12 innings.  He posted a career-high four RBI versus Northern Colorado on April 6, going 2-of-4 from the dish helping the Aggies to a 12-9 win over the WAC foe. Carswell was also an Academic All-WAC selection for his work in the classroom.

Freshman (2013): Carswell pitched 16 innings in 10 appearances, including two starts, during his freshman campaign at NM State.  He finished with a 1-0 record, a 6.75 ERA, allowed 20 hits and struck out 12 batters.  After starting the season by making six relief appearances, Carswell made his first start for the Aggies during the second game of doubleheader at Louisiana Tech.  He pitched into the seventh inning, only allowing six hits and one run while collecting three strikeouts en route to his lone victory of the season.  Carswell also pinch hit and played catcher on a couple of occasions, collecting two hits in six at-bats while scoring a run and driving in another.

High School: While attending Loyola High School of Los Angeles, Carswell played pitcher and catcher his senior season with an ERA of 2.47 while striking out 31 batters. He received the Brian J. Ulmer Award and was selected first team all-league in 2012.

Personal: Carswell is the son of Melinda and the late John Carswell and is studying business management.
