Biography

2004 (Senior): Ewen will move from right field to center field this spring and be the Aggies' starter and leadoff hitter.

2003 (Junior): Ewen started 21 of 24 conference games in right field and 41 of 54 games that he played in during his first season with the Aggies.

Ewen did not make an error all season until May 11 -- a streak of 68 consecutive chances without an error. Chris led all Aggie outfielders with four assists last year.

He was a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases last season. Chris had a career high three hits against LaSalle (3/16 and 3/15) and had a career best two RBI six times last season. He led the team in walks (42), finished seventh on the team in batting average (.295), second in stolen bases, fourth in on-base percentage (.465) and led the team with four sacrifice bunts. He hit .292 in league play with a team best 21 walks. His .466 on-base percentage in league play was second best on the Aggie squad.

Ewen scored three runs and picked up three hits in the Aggies' win over nationally ranked UNLV (5/30) in the NCAA Tournament. He had an infield single in the Aggies? three-run 11th inning that gave NMSU a 14-12 victory.

He had a four-game hitting streak from March 15-22 against LaSalle and Middle Tennessee and went eight for 15 with seven RBI and five runs scored.

Ewen had another four-game hitting streak from April 19-25 against Arkansas State, New Mexico and Florida International. During that stretch he went six for 12 with seven runs scored an an RBI.

Ewen threw out the potential game-tying runner at home plate from left field in the ninth inning in the Aggies 7-6 win over Drexel (3/2). He threw out another runner at home plate, this time from right field in the fifth inning of the Aggies' 14-5 win over Arkansas State (4/19). He was also involved in a runner being thrown out at home plate in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. His cutoff throw to the second baseman, who then threw home, gunned down a UL Lafayette runner at home in the eighth inning.

2001-02 (Freshman-Sophomore): Ewen was the starting center fielder at Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill. He hit .250 with one home run and 13 RBI and made no errors in 58 chances as a sophomore. He had five doubles and scored 24 runs in 34 games.

High school: Ewen led Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa to a state championship in 1999. He was an all-conference and all-metro pick in 2000.

Personal: Chris was born in Davenport, Iowa and is the son of Mike and Cindy Ewen. He is majoring in Horticulture.
