Senior: Howard
did not play in 2010 and took a red shirt season with NM State.
Junior: Howard played
in 40 games as a pinch hitter and catcher for the Aggies and made 21 starts in
2009. He posted a .340 batting
average with 34 hits, 28 RBI and five home runs. Howard also tallied a .429
on-base percentage coming up with 16 walks on the year. He hit his first home run as an Aggie
against Chicago State (2/27) as NM State won in dominant fashion 28-2. That day Howard went 2-for-3 at the
dish while scoring three times and picking up his first RBI of his Aggie
career. He followed that with another 2-of-3 day against Chicago State (2/28)
picking up another home run and two more RBI. In conference play, Howard tallied a .317 batting average
with 13 hits, two doubles and six RBI.
As a pinch hitter at Louisiana Tech (5/16), Howard marked a double to
help the Aggies to an 8-3 victory.
In the WAC Tournament Championship round (5/24) in Honolulu, Hawaii,
Howard went 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBI pinch hit double as the Aggies
fell 9-7 to eventual national Champions, Fresno State. He went 2-of-4 in the elimination game
of the WAC Championship as NM State lost 5-3 to the Bulldogs.
Junior College:
Howard was a catcher for Western Nevada College in Carson City, Nev. Under
coach DJ Whittemore, the Wildcats were regional champions, western district
champions, and appeared in the National Junior College Athletic Association
World Series in 2007. In 2008, the team was names NJCAA Academic Spring Team of
the Year, while maintaining above a 3.0 GPA. Howard was named a junior college
All-American and first team all-region.
High School:
Howard went to Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas, Nev. He played baseball
and football for SVHS. In 2005 his team took the state title holding a 34-5
season record. The next year, the Lions became conference champions with the Sunset
Conference. Howard lettered three years in baseball and one year in football.
Personal: Howard
is the son of Ken and Grace Howard and was born in Las Vegas, Nev. He is
majoring in Individualized Studies and working towards minors in management,
marketing and business administration.
