Biography

Junior (2008):  Nyquist returns to the Aggies in 2009 after he picked up six saves in 2008, which is the second most for an Aggie pitcher.  Used primarily as a closer, Nyquist worked 35 1/3 innings on the mound and finished the year with a 5.60 ERA, while adding 34 strikeouts and walking only 11.  His 27 appearances were second most on the team, as he finished 25 games, also a team best.  In his first appearance, Nyquist threw for four complete innings picking up three strikeouts and walking only one batter, leading NM State to a 24-19 victory over Ball State (3/1) and getting credit for his first win of the season.  His first save came against San Jose State (3/20), holding the Spartans off as the Aggies won 7-6.  Nyquist got his second save when he tallied three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of work at Nevada (4/4), taking the Aggies to a 6-4 win.  At Sacramento State (4/25), Nyquist hurled the ball for two complete innings, allowing only one hit to preserve a 7-4 win over the Hornets earning his third save, before picking up his fourth save the very next day when the Aggies won 5-3.  He faced the eventual National Champions (5/3) and got his fifth save when he came in to get the final out of the game as NM State won 12-7.  Nyquist’s sixth and final save came in Honolulu, Hawai’i (5/8) as the Aggies defeated the Rainbows 7-5 with Nyquist picking up two strikeouts in the final inning of play.

 

Junior College:  Nyquist played baseball under Coach Stover for the Solano Community College Falcons.  He helped the Falcons to a 32 ? 12 team record in 2007, which lead them to the first round in the playoffs.  He set the schools single season and career record with 15 saves.  For his accomplishments, he was named to the All-BVC and All-Northern California first teams.  During his sophomore year he pitched 25 innings had 15 saves and 19 strikeouts. 

 

High School:  Nyquist played baseball for the Fairfield High School Falcons as a pitcher and third basemen.  In 2001 he helped the Falcons to a second place finish.  The team won second place in the league, but lost in their first round in playoffs.  In both 2003 and 2004, the team made it to a third place finish. In that year of 2004, he helped his team to a 14 ? 13 team record.  In his senior year he had an ERA of 2.88, with a 4-2 record.  He pitched 58 innings, struck out 38 batters and had six saves.

 

Personal:  Nyquist was born in San Jose, California and is the son of John and Patty Nyquist.  He is majoring in Individualized Studies.
