Biography

Junior (2008):  Duran was used as a reliever once again for the Aggies and finished the season with a 1-0 record, while he tallied 28 appearances, which was tops on the team.  In a 13-8 victory over the eventual National Champions, Fresno State (3/10) during the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic, Duran threw three innings and gave up only two runs while striking one out and not giving up a walk.  Duran finished the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic with a two-inning appearance against Indiana (3/15) when he struck out four batters.  Duran came into the game in the fourth inning to help the Aggies try to make the come back against CSU-Pueblo (4/2), as he threw for five complete innings, struck out one batter, gave up three hits and no runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Aggies fell 7-6.  He came in again versus Fresno State (5/3) to do his job as he worked 2/3 of an inning, which helped NM State pick up a 9-2 win over the Bulldogs.  Against the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech (5/16) he threw for one inning and got a strike out to assist the Aggies to a 14-11 win at Presley Askew Field.

 

Sophomore (2007):  Used mainly as a middle-reliever Duran had a team leading 24 appearances on the mound in 2007.  He had an ERA of 6.95 and a 1-1 record.  In an 11-6 win over Northwestern (3/4), Duran put in three innings of work, struck out three batters and didn’t give up any runs.  In his next appearance, Duran faced Utah Valley State (3/9) and threw for a season high 4 2/3 innings.  He struck out two batters and gave no runs as the won 11-6.  In the second game of a double-header against Northern Colorado (4/15), Duran helped the Aggies to a 19-12 victory as he came in and threw the ball for three innings and gave up only three earned runs.  That was his only win of the year.  Duran continued to show success in double-headers when he came in during game two of a double-header against Hawai’i (4/28) to help seal a 9-4 win, when he stuck out a batter.

 

Freshman (2006): Duran pitched a total of 38.1 innings during the 2006 season striking out 20 batters.  He was second on the team with 17 games in relief.  Duran also started four games for the Aggies.  He got his first start as an Aggie against Utah (2/5) and pitched three innings striking out two batters and walking two.  In a 5-4 loss against the Washington Huskies (2/12) Duran pitched four innings, striking out four batters and not walking any.  He would earn his first win of the season against Northern Colorado (2/25) when he hurled three complete innings and gave up only two runs while fanning one.  Duran’s next showing as a starter came against Brigham Young University (3/18) where he walked only two batters.  He would strike out three batters in a loss against Sacramento State (4/7), and would pick up his second win in an 8-7 win against Louisiana Tech (4/30).  

 

High School: Duran graduated from Mayfield High School in Las Cruces where he helped the Trojans to a 16-9 record and a district title in 2004.  He was named a First Team All-State and a First Team All-District pitcher in 2004 while also playing in the North-South All-Star Game and the East-West All-Star Game where he was named a First Team All-Tournament pitcher.  In 2003, Frankie was named a Second Team All-District pitcher as he earned two letters playing high school ball.  In his senior season Duran posted a 2.43 ERA with 49 strikeouts and only six walks in 79 innings pitched.

 

Personal: Frankie was born in El Paso, Texas and is the son of Ron and Beatrice Duran.  He is majoring in elementary education at NMSU.
