Biography

Senior (2007):  While coming up with six strike outs in four innings of work, Conner suffered a season ending injury in the first game of the year and was given a medical redshirt.

 

Junior (2006):  Conner started on the mound for the Aggies 16 times during the season and finished with a 3-4 record, which gave him a .429 win-loss percentage.  His 5.35 ERA also led the team in 2006.  He pitched a total of 104 innings, which was good for most on the team.  Conner also had the most strikeouts on the Aggie pitching staff with 86.  He walked only 36 batters and hit seven batters with pitches.  In Conner’s first start against Utah (2/3) he threw for five innings allowing only one earned run and acquiring seven strikeouts helping the Aggies to a 4-1 victory.  Conner started against Washington (2/10) and threw for six strong innings walking just three batters in the only game won against the Huskies by a score of 12-11.  In a 5-3 win against #29 Gonzaga (2/17), Conner fired off the mound for seven innings striking out five batters while giving up just one walk and one run.  He was credited with his first win of the season against the Bulldogs.  Conner picked up his first loss of the season in a game against Loyola Marymount (3/10) where he struck out seven batters and walked only three.  In a 9-8 conference win against Fresno State (4/2) struck out six batters and helped the Aggies stop the Bulldogs 17-game win streak.  Conner would pick up his second win of the season in a start against North Florida (4/15) striking out five batters while walking two and giving up only two runs.  In the 9-3 victory against North Florida, Conner held the Ospreys hitless for four straight innings.  Conner got his third win of the season against Louisiana Tech (4/28) in seven innings of work that included six strikeouts and two runs off seven hits. Conner went to work early in the game as he recorded a pair of strikeouts and retired the Bulldogs in four hitters to open the game, and help start the sweep against Louisiana Tech.  The Las Cruces Mayfield graduate Jason Conner struck out a season high nine batters in 7.2 innings of work, but was overshadowed by a heartbreaking loss as the New Mexico State baseball team fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack 5-4 in Conner’s final start of the season. 

 

Sophomore (2005): Jason saw the mound 16 times for the Aggies in 2005 as he had an ERA of 6.52 with a team high seven wins and five losses.  He led the team in strikeouts (71) while finishing second in innings pitched (78.0), fourth in opposing batting average (.317) and was second in batters struck out looking (25).  Against the College of the Southwest (3/5) Jason recorded a career-high in strikeouts with 11 while giving up only four hits and no runs in seven innings of shutout ball.  Conner also struck out at least five batters on seven different occasions while giving up two or fewer earned runs in five separate outings.

 

Freshman (2004):  Conner finished the season ranked second on the staff in starts with 13 and strikeouts with 63.  He was third on the staff with 66.1 innings pitched, fourth in wins with a 4-4 record and had the fifth best ERA at 6.51.  He threw one complete game against Iona College (3/7) and tied Dustin Cameron for season-high honors with nine strikeouts against New Orleans (4/18).  The Aggies were 9-4 in Conner?s 13 starts.  In his first collegiate game, Jason came out of the pen and threw two innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up one earned run in the Aggies? 14-5 win over College of the Southwest (1/25).  Jason won his first collegiate start, a six-inning, three-strikeout affair against Rhode Island (2/28).  Conner gave up just five hits and one earned run as the Aggies went on to the 9-1 victory and a sweep over the Rams.  Conner also won his second career start, a complete game victory over Iona College in the series finale (3/7).  Jason struck out nine, walked just one, and allowed two earned runs in the 8-2 victory.  In his first career Sun Belt Conference game, Conner struck out two in four innings of work against Middle Tennessee (3/28) as the Aggies went on to win the rubber game of the series, 12-3.  In his next start, Conner registered his first conference victory and helped the Aggies to a  series win of Arkansas-Little Rock, 5-2 (4/4).  He struck out four and allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work.  In the final game with New Orleans (4/18), Conner struck out a career-high nine batters in just five innings of work to help the Aggies to an 11-8 victory for their lone win of the series.  In his next start at Arkansas State (4/25), Conner helped the Aggies to a 9-5 win in the deciding game of the series.  In his next start, at Arkansas State (4/25), Conner helped the Aggies to a 9-5 win in the deciding game of the series.  Despite a no-decision, Jason went seven strong innings, striking out seven while walking just two.  In his next, state Conner helped the Aggies to a series sweep of Florida International (5/2).  Jason went 4.2 innings and struck out five as NMSU edged FIU, 8-7.  Conner’s second conference victory of the season came in the second game of a doubleheader at Western Kentucky. (5/8).  Jason went six innings, striking out six and allowing just one earned run as the Aggies won the final game of the series, 11-1.

 

High School:   Conner earned first team all-district honors in both 2002 and 2003 for the Trojans of Mayfield High School, where he played four years of varsity baseball.  Jason Batted .420 his senior season with 21 runs batted in and six home runs.  Conner also threw 50.1 innings on the mound for the Trojans in 2003, accumulating a 2.50 ERA and striking out 60 batters.

Personal:  Jason was born in Las Cruces, N.M. and is the son of Tom and Judy Conner.  He recently earned a bachelor's degree from NMSU in business administration and is currently attending school for a master's in communication.
