2005(JUNIOR: Joaquin started in three games for NMSU and played in 25 total as he finished the year with seven runs scored and four RBI. He also had one home run and stole one base while recording one double for a .261 batting average. Against Chicago State (2/18), Ortiz hit an NMSU career-high .600 with two hits in three at-bats and drove in one RBI and scored two runs. The following day against the Cougars, Joaquin had one hit in two at-bats and scored one run as he hit .571 for the game. On the field, Ortiz had 11 putouts with one assist for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Ortiz comes to New Mexico State after playing two seasons at Phoenix College where he was a teammate of Aggie pitcher Brian Boyer. As a freshman, Joaquin hit .286 with 23 RBI. In 119 at-bats he hit seven doubles and three home runs, scoring 21 times. In his sophomore season, Ortiz hit .320 with 26 RBI and 20 runs scored. He also posted a .356 on-base percentage and stole 10 bases in 2004.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ortiz attended and graduated from Sahuaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz.

PERSONAL: Joaquin was born in Portales, N.M. an is the son of Joe and Diana Ortiz. He is majoring in Communication Studies.
