Biography

Junior (2007):  Scaperotta came into the Aggie baseball program and made an immediate impact as he won the team triple crown in 2007.  He led the way with a .341 batting average, 10 home runs and 59 RBI.  Scaperotta also led the team in slugging percentage (.594), doubles (19) and total bases (129).  He was third in on-base percentage (.410), second in runs scored (47), second in hits (74) and fifth in walks (22).  Scaperotta also had the most multiple hit games (21) and multiple RBI games (16) in 2007.  His longest hitting steak was 10 games, which lasted from Feb. 16 at New Orleans to March 4 against Northwestern.  Scaperotta also made a name for himself in the Western Athletic Conference earning second-team All-WAC honors.  He finished the season fifth in slugging percentage, fifth in RBI, tied for third in doubles, tied for fifth in home runs, eighth in total bases , sixth in hits per game (1.37), third in doubles per game (0.35), fifth in home runs per game (0.19), and third in RBI per game (1.09).  Scaperotta played in 54 games and started in the outfield in 53 of those games.  In his fourth start with the Aggies, he helped his team to a 16-5 win over Utah (2/9) as he went 5-for-5 with seven RBI.  That day Scaperotta hit three doubles, a triple and a home run.  In a 7-5 victory at New Orleans (2/16) Scaperotta hit a shot over the right-field wall with two outs in the inning.  He went 3-of-5 on the day including his second triple of the season and two RBI.  Two days later Scaperotta helped seal the series when the Aggies got another win at New Orleans (2/18) as he went 5-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored.  On a day when NMSU scored 16 runs to beat Temple (2/23), he hit a blast over the wall and was 3-of-6 in the box with four RBI.  Against Northwestern (3/4) in the Dallas-Baptist tournament, he was 3-for-5 with a double and his fourth home run of the year.  Scaperotta’s fifth bomb came at New Mexico (3/13) to help the Aggies defeat their rivals 9-6.  He also had four RBI that day.  Scaperotta had another four RBI day when the Aggies beat Nevada (3/31) 6-3.  He also hit his sixth homer of the year against the Wolf Pack.  In a double-header at Northern Colorado (4/15) Scaperotta had a total of seven hits, eight RBI and scored seven times, with a home run in each game.  With the game tied at four in the bottom of the eighth inning, Scaperotta hit a solo home run down the right field line to put the Aggies ahead for good in a, 5-4, victory over Texas Tech (5/15).  It was his tenth home run of the year.

 

Freshman (2005):  Scaperotta played at San Diego State during his freshman year appearing in 40 contests, starting 21 times in left field.  He hit a pair of home runs, the first two of his collegiate career, in a win at Brigham Young (4/14).  He hit another bomb at Utah (5/7).  Scaperrotta made 10 appearances as a pinch hitter, and compiled a .300 average with two singles, a double and an RBI.  His season high was four hits that included a pair of doubles, in a game against New Mexico (5/18) on a day where he scored a personal best three runs. Scaperotta also recorded six multiple-RBI games.

 

High School: Scaperotta played four years of varsity baseball at Mission Bay High School under coach Dennis Pugh.  The team won two CIF championships and four Western League titles during his prep career.  Scaperotta was named to the all-Western League first team as a senior.  He hit .411 with nine home runs, 35 runs scored and 44 RBI, with his home run and RBI totals both being the highest in San Diego County.  Scaperotta was selected one of California’s Best of 2004 by the California Baseball Coaches Association.

 

Personal: Joseph Scaperotta is the son of Laura and Ralph Scaperotta and was born in San Diego, Calif.  He is undecided on a major.
