Biography

Junior (2008):  Lucero played in 36 games and started 22 at centerfield for the Aggies.  He crossed the plate 13 times and walked 10 times, while tallying 58 putouts on defense.  Lucero came in off the bench against New Orleans (2/22) and picked up a double and scored once helping NM State to a 12-11 win.  In a 6-5 win versus Hawai’i-Pacific (4/9), Lucero marked 10 putouts and scored once.  He helped that Aggies to a vital 11-5 win over conference foe Sacramento State (4/26) with a walk, a run scored and a putout.

 

Junior College: Lucero attended Bellevue Community College and played baseball as an outfielder under Coach Yoshino before coming to New Mexico State University.  In 2006, Lucero helped the Bulldogs achieve third place in the league championships, and first place in 2007.  Lucero had 36 stolen bases and a batting average of .345 in 2007.  His on-base percentage was .533.  Lucero posted a .225 batting average and had nineteen stolen bases in 2006. He was awarded first team All-NWACC outfielder for his efforts in 2007.

 

High School:  Lucero played several sports for the Meadowdale High School Mavericks.  He played tennis, centerfield in baseball, and running back in football.  He helped the Mavericks baseball team to a fifth-place finish at the state championships in 2002, and a sixth-place finish in 2003.  During the 2002 season, the Mavericks were league champions.  The Mavericks football team took seventh in state in 2004.  He also helped his football team become league champions in 2005, and acquired fifth in state.  Lucero was named to the first and second, All-Wesco baseball team selection in 2005, and second All-Wesco football team.    He received honorable mention for the 4A All-Wesco team selection in 2004 and 2005, and was awarded Most Valuable Player in 2003. He lettered two years in football and four years in baseball.

 

Personal:  Lucero is the son of Cesar and Grace Lucero and was born in Seattle, Washington.  He is majoring in communications.
