Junior (2013): Medina was the Aggies’ starting right fielder from day one during his first season with NM State. He was one of only three Aggies to play in all 57 games during the 2013 season. Medina led the WAC in total walks with 45 on the season. He had 19 of those walks during WAC play to place him second in the conference. Medina also had 67 hits on the season, second-most on the NM State squad, and an on-base percentage of .454, which ranked him second in the WAC behind teammate and former Aggie Tanner Rust.
Medina’s 54 runs scored tied him for the team lead with Rust. The teammates were tied for second-best in the WAC in the category. Medina, however, topped the list by himself of runs scored during WAC play with 30 runs scored. Medina’s batting average of .324 was third highest on the team. During WAC play, he improved his average to .369, which put him in a tie for fourth-best in the WAC during conference play. Medina had seven doubles, two triples, which tied him for a team high in triples, and finished in a tie for fourth on the NM State team with 31 RBIs on the season.
Medina also added 11 steals on the season, which were the second most on the team. On the field, he made only one error all season and had a team-high .991 fielding percentage among players who played at least half of the 57 games.
Medina’s best performance of the season came in the first game of a doubleheader against Alabama A&M on March 16. Medina reached base on all five of his plate appearances, grabbing two hits and three walks, in a NM State 24-4 blowout win. He finished with five runs scored as well as five RBIs on the day, both season highs. Medina also had a season-high four hits on two occasions, first versus LaSalle (March 10) and again at Louisiana Tech (April 21).
Medina was honored for his achievements on the diamond by being named to the All-WAC second team at the conclusion of the season.
Prior to NM State: In 2011 Medina played outfield for Compton Community College located in Compton, Calif. While at Compton, Medina also participated in the Cecil Fielder Elite World Series as an outfielder. His team went on to win the tournament and Medina was a recipient of the Gold Glove Award.
High School: Medina played four years of high school baseball (2007-2010) at St. John Bosco High School located in Bellflower, Calif. He was honored as a scholar-athlete all four years he was at St. John Bosco. Medina also received a varsity letter and a Gold Glove Award after both his junior and senior years.
Personal: Medina is the son of Salvador and Beatrice Medina. He was born in Pasadena, Calif., and is majoring in kinesiology. During his free time Medina enjoys reading and lifting weights.
