Junior (2014): Paulson was one of the key contributors to the Aggies during the season, sitting at second overall in batting average throughout the year and being a mainstay for the Aggies defensively, starting mainly at third base but playing in the outfield as well. Paulson played in all 54 games for the Aggies, including there 24 conference matchups. WAC play saw Paulson’s numbers go up across the board, recording a .351 batting average and a .454 slugging percentage. The sure handed hitter led the team in conference play with 34 hits and 22 RBIs. With a .317 batting average, Paulson recorded the most at bats on the team with 202, driving in 40 runs, recording 64 hits and a slugging percentage of .391. He was second on the team in multiple hit games with 21 and had the longest consecutive game-hitting streak with a streak of 13 that he carried into the upcoming season. Paulson also had 11 multiple RBI games. Paulson had his best game against Northern Colorado April 4, where he went 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in three RBIs and connecting on two doubles. He finished the game with a .306 batting average. Paulson hit his only home run of the season against Chicago State, May 16.
Sophomore (2013): Paulson became a staple of the Aggie infield during his first season at NM State. He played in 48 of 57 games in 2013, starting in 37 of those games. Paulson finished the season as the Aggie regular first baseman. He started a team-high 28 games at first base while also starting games at left field and as the designated hitter. Paulson finished second on the Aggie squad with 194 putouts. Offensively, Paulson hit .226, had 28 hits including six doubles, scored 24 runs, had 17 RBIs and finished in a tie for sixth on the team with three home runs. Two of those home runs came against Ohio (Feb. 22) during NM State’s first road game of the season. Paulson had two hits in a game a total of six times throughout the season. He had a season-high three RBIs in two of those games, first versus Alabama A&M (Mar. 16) and again versus Dallas Baptist (Apr. 6).
Prior to NM State: Paulson played for Walla Walla Community College as an outfielder in 2011 and 2012 where the team took second in the NWACC-East Region. In 2012, as a member of the Warriors, he hit .333 with two RBI, in just 12 at-bats. Paulson hit .414 with five doubles and 11 RBI in 58 at-bats. As a pitcher he was 2-2 with one save and a 3.37 ERA over 18.2 innings of work. He was also awarded second team utility in 2012.
High School: In his senior year at Issaquah High School in Issaquah, Wash., Paulson hit .414 and scored 26 runs for the 2010 season. That same year, the Issaquah Eagles were also league champions after taking fifth in state in 2009.
Personal: Paulson is the son of Scott and Vicki Paulson and is majoring in individualized studies and civil engineering.
