Biography

2003 (Senior): Mike will be the Aggies closer this season after a solid junior year.

2002 (Junior): Smith started the season as one of the Aggies? top three starters and was then moved into the closer role. In 12 relief appearances, Smith posted a 2-0 record with three saves and a 3.49 earned run average. He struck out 23 in 28.1 innings of relief. He pitched 1.2 innings of hitless relief against San Diego in the NCAA Tournament. He earned the save, going four innings against South Alabama in the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Smith pitched hitless relief in five of his relief appearances, all of which went at least one full inning. Opposing hitters batted just .243 against Smith out of the bullpen. He earned the victory in the Aggies 3-2 win over Arkansas State (5/23) in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. He went two innings, allowing three hits and one run. Smith did not walk a batter in his final three appearances covering 7.2 innings. One of his most impressive relief appearances of the season came while he was still in the starting rotation. Smith went seven innings and allowed only five hits and no earned runs in the Aggies? 4-3, 15 inning victory against New Mexico (2/9). He made eight starts, his last coming on April 6. He earned his first save by pitching 1.2 innings of one hit relief in the Aggies? 4-2 win at Arkansas State on April 27. He earned his second save by pitching two hitless innings of relief at Western Kentucky on May 12.

2000-01 (Freshman-Sophomore): As a sophomore, Smith compiled a 6-5 record in 13 games at Eastern Arizona Junior College in Thatcher, Arizona. He posted a 3.10 ERA in 78.1 innings, striking out 62 and walking 31. Smith also hurled four complete game, was named Team MVP in 2001, was named to the Triple Crown All-Tournament team and was an Arizona JC All-Star team member.

High School: Mike graduated from Skyview High School in 1999.

Personal: Mike was born in Sterling, Alaska and is the son of Terrance and Toni Smith. He is majoring in business.
