Junior (2011):
Waite played in 57 games, starting in 47 of them as the primary left fielder
for the Aggies in 2011. He finished
third on the team and 29th in the country with a .389 batting average. Waite, a
first team All-WAC selection after hitting .350 in league play, posted 43 RBI
while hitting in the No. 2 spot on the lineup 25 times and in the No. 5 spot 18
times. He was in the top-5 on the team for slugging percentage (.486), runs
scored (49), RBI (43), doubles (12), walks (44) and sacrifice flies (4). Waite's longest hitting streak was 10 games
that went from March 20 against I.P.F.W. through April 8 at Louisiana Tech. In game two of a doubleheader against Buffalo
(Feb. 27), Waite went 4-of-6 at the plate with a double, four RBI and two runs
scored to help the Aggies win 19-13. In
game one of a doubleheader against conference foe San Jose State (April 16),
Waite pushed NM State to a 16-8 victory as he was 3-for-3 at the dish with a
walk, an RBI and two runs scored. During the final league series of the year,
Waite helped the Aggies to an 18-8 win over Hawai'i (May 20) as was 4-of-4 at
the plate with a walk and five RBI. NM State won 25 games when Waite started in
left field.
Junior College: Waite played and attended Lamar
Community College and was named a second team all-region honoree in 2009 after
posting a .365 batting average. In 2010, Waite played and started in 60
games for Lamar CC marking 63 hits, 36 RBI, two doubles, three triples and a
.323 batting average. He showed patience at the plate earning 29 walks
compared to 26 strikeouts. That year he helped his team to a 48-12 record
with the team going 24-6 in league play.
High School: Waite graduated from Northglenn High
School in Northglenn, Colo., where he played both football and baseball.
He was a first team all-conference selection in 2007 and 2008 for baseball,
while being named a 2008 first team all-conference selection in football.
He earned the Silver Slugger Award in 2008 and was also named the team most
valuable player. Waite earned Defensive Player of the Year for football
in 2007 and won the Excellence in Achievement Distinguished Athlete Award in
2008.
Personal: Tanner Waite is the son of Cliff and Marti
Waite. He was born in Burlington, Vt. and is majoring in business management.
