Biography

Redshirt Junior: Owens played in 13 games and started one for Aggies during the 2010 season. Owens posted a .750 slugging percentage with a .450 batting average. He also had five RBI and three multiple hit games. Owens had 34 put outs with a .974 fielding percentage for the season.

Junior:  Owens did not play in 2009 and took a red shirt season with the Aggies.

Junior College: Owens played third base for the Green River Gators before coming to NM State. He helped his team to a 34-18 record in 2007, which helped lead them to a third place finish in NWAACC and second place in the western region. Tyler received the NWAACC All-Tournament team award. In 2008, Owens had eight doubles, 21 RBI and played in the Sophomore Showcase as well.

High School: Owens played at Central Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, Washington as a third baseman. He helped his senior team to become the Narrows League Champions and gain a first place finish in district with a 20-3 season record. In 2005, he and the Cougars held an 18-5 record and finished third in the league. Owens was names first team All-League the same year. Owens was also named first team All-League, Narrows League MVP, second team All-State and team captain.

Personal: Owens is the son of Steve Owens and Joy Balstad and he was born in Bremerton, Washington. His major is undeclared.
