Sophomore (2011):
Fisher was named to the 2012 National Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and
the College Sports Madness Baseball Preseason All-American Teams after a
stellar sophomore season. He was a 2011
second team All-WAC selection as a designated hitter and an American Baseball
Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region selection after leading the team
with a .398 batting average and 68 hits.
His batting average ranked 20th in the nation and his 71 RBI ranked 76th
nationally. Fisher posted 16 doubles and 56 RBI to go along with a team-high
eight home runs. He also led the team in slugging percentage at .632. Fisher's great hitting skills helped NM State
become the 2011 NCAA Statistical Champion for batting average (.337) while the
team was second nationally in runs per game (8.5) and third in runs scored
(495). He appeared in 52 games while starting in 44. He also tied
for team-high honors with 68 hits including 16 doubles and a team-high eight
home runs. Fisher was named WAC Hitter of the Week for his play during the week
of March 8-April 3. That week helped the
Aggies to a 3-1 record last week when playing against Northern Colorado. Fisher
did not play the opening game but played the last three. He went 2-for-3 in the
first game of the double header. He went 6-for-11 at the plate throughout the
three games. Fisher had one strike out two RBI and a walk. The Aggies conquered
the Bears to a 13-4 win with Fisher hitting a homerun that scored three runs in
game two of the double header. The Aggies came back to from 10 runs down to win
the game with a score of 19-16. These three homeruns marked his first of
the season. Fisher posted a season-high three hits in eight different games and
tallied a season-high five RBI against San Jose State (April 17) as the Aggies
defeated the Spartans 20-8 in seven innings.
Fisher helped NM State defeat Hawai'i (May 20) 18-8 when he went 3-of-5
at the dish with a double, a home run, a sacrifice fly and three RBI. The NM
State coaching staff is expecting Fisher to see playing time at designated
hitter, catcher and first base.
Freshman: In his first season as a catcher for NM
State, Fisher played in 38 games and started in 28. Finishing with a .350
batting average, Fisher was named a third-team freshman All-American by
Ping!Baseball News (now known as CollegeBaseballLineup.com). He did even better
in league play hitting .417 (20-of-48) against Western Athletic Conference
foes. Fisher tied for the most home runs on the team in conference play with
six. Senior Chris Auten also had six homers against WAC opponents.
On the year, Fisher finished with eight bombs. In his first season with the
Aggies, Fisher started 28 games behind the plate and came up with 11 doubles
and 33 RBI. He posted a .634 slugging percentage and a .423 on-base
percentage. When Fresno State (5/8) took on the Aggies, Fisher hit his fifth
homer of the season in the fifth inning as he finished the day 2-of-3 with
three RBI, although the Aggies lost ending a 10-game winning streak. He
blasted his eighth homer in a disappointing 11-10 loss to Hawai'i 5/13) in
Honolulu. On a day when three freshmen stepped up their play to defeat
Sacramento State (4/24) 9-3, Fisher earned two hits including a double and a
run scored. Fisher also had a good day against Louisiana Tech (5/2),
going 4-of-5 at the dish with three RBI and four runs scored as the won
22-8.
High School: Fisher attended A.B. Miller High School
in Fontana, Calif. Fisher was behind the plate all four years of high school as
the Rebel's catcher. Fisher had 25 RBIs, three homeruns and an average of .544
his senior season. He led the way to a league championship in 2007
and earned first team all-league honors as a catcher. He was named a
second team all-league selection as a catcher in 2008.
Personal: Fisher was born in Fontana, Calif. Fisher
is the son of Donald and Charmie Fisher. He is majoring in mathematics.
