Biography

2004: Greg is coming off a solid year and should be one of the Aggies’ top defensive players.

2003 (Junior): Scaffidi was plagued by injury last season, but still registered 13 total tackles, four for loss including two quarterback sacks. He started the first six games of the season and the final game against North Texas. His biggest play of the year came against Oregon State (9/13) when he picked up a fumble by Beaver quarterback Derek Anderson and ran it back 22 yards for a touchdown to give the Aggies a 7-0 lead. He also registered three tackles in that game. He came back the following week to register a pair of tackles including one for loss against New Mexico (9/27). The next week he sacked Idaho quarterback Brian Lindgren and forced a fumble in the fourth quarter. He followed that up with a career high six tackle performance the following week against Middle Tennessee. He sacked Blue Raider quarterback Clint Marks in the first quarter, forcing a punt. Scaffidi missed the next five weeks due to injury, returned for the season finale against North Texas and registered one tackle.

2002 (Sophomore): Greg played in 10 of 12 games for the Aggies in 2002 and started eight times, recording 23 tackles with four tackles for a loss and one and a half quarterback sacks. He had a season high five tackles against Middle Tennessee (11/2) and North Texas (11/16). He had tackles for loss against UL Lafayette (10/12), Arkansas State (10/26), Middle Tennessee and North Texas. He had three tackles and a quarterback sack in the season opener against nationally ranked South Carolina (8/31).

2001 (Redshirt Freshman): Scaffidi earned his first letter by playing in the first nine games before missing the final three games due to an illness. He made 21 total tackles including five for loss and recovered two fumbles. He had a career high six tackles, including five solo against nationally ranked Texas (9/1). He also had five tackles, including two for losses of 11 yards and a fumble recovery at Middle Tennessee (10/27). He had four tackles, including one for loss against North Texas (11/3). Greg also had a fumble recovery at Tulsa (10/6).

2000 (Freshman): Scaffidi redshirted his first season at New Mexico State.

High School: Greg was a three-year letterwinner in football at Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Fla. He helped his team win a district title and reached the state quarterfinals in 1997. The Crusaders were district runners-up in his senior season, posting a 6-5 record. He played tight end, linebacker and defensive line. He was ranked fifth best tight end and 91st overall in the state by Florida Prep Football. Greg was named all-county his senior season and lettered one season in basketball and track and field.

Personal: Greg John Scaffidi was born in Norwalk, Connecticut and is the son of Charles Scaffidi. Greg is the twin brother of Carl and is majoring in Marketing.
