2013 (Junior):  Matthews played in 12 games at wide receiver during the 2013 season. He recorded 313 yards receiving on 23 receptions, along with three kick returns for 48 yards and 10 punt returns for 69 yards.  Matthews also tallied 430 all-purpose yards. His best game came against Minnesota (Sept. 7), as Matthews caught three receptions for 53 yards, with a long of 33.  Matthews recorded five games with at least three receptions or more, including a season high four catches against No. 15 Texas (Aug. 31) for 52 yards.  
2012 (Sophomore):  Matthews played in 11 games in the 2012 season at wide receiver, starting four games for the Aggies.  He finished the season with eight receptions for 133 yards.  Against New Mexico (Sep. 22), Matthews set career highs with two receptions and 30 yards receiving.  His longest reception came in the opener against Sacramento State (Aug. 30), when Matthews made a catch for 28 yards.
2011 (Freshman): Matthews played in eight games for NM State in 2011 at wide receiver and on special teams. He did not record any statistical information but was used as a blocker on offense.
High School: Matthews played both wide receiver and defensive back for the Rincon High School Rangers. During the 2010 season, Matthews had 65 receptions, 955 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a defensive back he had 60 tackles as well as five interceptions. During his junior and senior seasons, Matthews was selected as a second team all-region defensive back. As a senior, he was also selected as a first team All-Southern Arizona, first team all-region and honorable mention all-state as a wide receiver. Matthews was thought of highly by his teammates, who selected him to receive the “Ranger Award,” an award for the most all-around player both on and off the football field.
Personal: Matthews is the son of Mark and Lisa Matthews. He plans to major in criminal justice.
