Aaron Cheatwood

Aaron Cheatwood joins the NM State staff for the 2022 season after serving as the Defensive Coordinator for Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas.

Initially, Cheatwood was added to the Garden City staff as a Defensive Line coach in 2019 before being elevated to the Defensive Coordinator in June of 2021.

Previously, Cheatwood was also a head coach at Yuma Catholic High School in Yuma, Arizona. Cheatwood was the Defensive Coordinator for Yuma Catholic from 2011 until June of 2016, when he was appointed to the head coach role.

After his tenure at Yuma Catholic, Cheatwood transitioned to Coach Gila Ridge High School in Yuma where he served as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach for two seasons.

From 2007-2011, Cheatwood worked on both sides of the line at Arizona Western College in Yuma. Cheatwood began his coaching career as the Defensive Line coach in 2007 before taking over the Offensive Line in 2009.

Cheatwood graduated from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas in December of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management.

Throughout his career, Cheatwood has coached or recruited a flurry of players with NFL experience. These players include Randy Gregory (Dallas Cowboys), Damien Williams (Chicago Bears ; Miami Dolphins), Jesse Williams (Seattle Seahawks), Zach Masch (Seattle Seahawks), and Myles Wade (Minnesota Vikings)
