Michael Navarrette joined the athletic department in November 2021 and has served as the Assistant AD for Media Relations since January 2023. He currently serves as the primary media relations contact for football, baseball, men's golf and women's golf. Since arriving at NM State, he has worked with nearly every athletic program, including stints as the primary contact for men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming and diving, men's tennis and women's tennis.
In January 2026, Navarrette was also named the sport administrator for the Aggie swimming and diving program.
In his role, Navarrette helps promote Aggie Athletics while supporting coaches, student-athletes and administrators. His responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance of the NM State Athletics website, creating social media content, working closely with local and national media, managing record books and historical archives, and highlighting student-athlete accomplishments.
Navarrette is a 2019 graduate of New Mexico State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in marketing and advertising.
Following graduation, he served as a media relations intern for the Western Athletic Conference. In 2020, he was promoted to media relations assistant, overseeing media relations operations for women's basketball, volleyball, women's soccer, track and field, softball, men's tennis and women's tennis.
He resides in Las Cruces with his wife, Savannah, and their two children, Katarina and Miles.
