Biography

2013 (Junior): Colwell played at running back, quarterback and wide receiver for the Aggies during 2013.  On the year he rushed for 77 yards on 22 carries, catching one pass for 36 yards.  His best game of the season came against Louisiana (Nov. 2) when he ran for 58 yards on 16 carries, also recording one reception for 36 yards and his first career touchdown reception.
2012 (Sophomore):  Colwell played in seven games for the Aggies at quarterback in the 2012 season.  He completed six passes for 66 yards and a touchdown on the season.  He did not throw any interceptions in 13 passing attempts. Colwell also used his legs as he ran the ball 31 times for 139 yards in 2012.  Colwell made his biggest impact of the season, when he entered the game against San Jose State (Nov. 10) and ran the ball 10 times for 16 yards.  In the game, Colwell also threw the ball 11 times and completed five passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. Colwell was named Academic All-WAC for fall 2012.
2011 (Freshman): Colwell played in seven games for the Aggies after being taken off his redshirt due to injuries to Andrew Manley and Matt Christian. Colwell threw for 419 yards on 39 of 60 and two touchdowns on the season. He only threw three interceptions, and also rushed for 11 yards. Colwell made his first career start at Louisiana Tech (Nov. 26) completing a career-high 15-of-25 passing attempts for 118 yards and netted 12 yards rushing on a career-high 15 carries. He entered the game at BYU (Nov. 19) with just under five minutes left in third quarter finishing with 61 yards on 7-of-11 passing. At Georgia (Nov. 5) after halftime, Colwell came in for an injured Matt Christian after recovering from lower leg injury suffered at Hawai’i two weeks prior. He posted solid numbers against the Bulldogs in the second half on 8-of-12 passing for a career-high 120 yards and a touchdown. Colwell saw his first duty at New Mexico (Oct. 1), where he did not attempt a pass. Against Idaho, Colwell completed 7-of-9 attempts for 100 yards including first career touchdown toss to Kemonte Bateman for career-long of 50 yards.
High School: Colwell was a two-year starter for the Manvel High School Mavericks at quarterback. As a senior, Colwell threw for 1,117 yards and 18 touchdowns, completing 77-of-153 with only four interceptions. He completed over 50 percent of his pass attempts. Colwell also rushed for 524 yards on 106 carries, reaching the end zone six times on the year. He was responsible for 24 touchdowns on the season. He was named a unanimous first team all-district selection in 2010.  As a junior, Colwell threw for 523 yards and five touchdowns, completing 29-of-77. He also rushed for 360 yards and two touchdowns. For his efforts, he earned second team all-district.
Personal: Colwell resides with his grandmother Kathryn Colwell and is the son of Chris Colwell and Lashaundra Brandon. He plans to major in general business at NM State.
