Aggies, Oh Aggies!
Sean McClurg - Headshot - AL18 - 1

Sean McClurg

Now in his fourth season on head coach Chris Jans' staff, Sean McClurg heads into the 2021-22 season with a new title - Director of Basketball Operations.

Through his first three seasons on staff (2018-21), McClurg served as the program's video coordinator. In that role, he was an integral part of the Aggies' on-court successes as a result of his expertise in the scouting and film breakdown realms.

In his first season with the Aggies (2018-19), McClurg saw NM State capture its second-straight Western Athletic Conference regular-season title, third-straight conference tournament title and 22nd NCAA Tournament Appearance. The following year (2019-20) NM State upped the ante by a considerable margin, ending the season on a 19-game winning streak which included the first 16-0 record in Western Athletic Conference play ever produced in the history of the league.

Challenged through the 2020-21 season due to in-state COVID-19 restrictions, McClurg and the Aggies were unable to practice in full and were also denied the chance to play any home games in the state of New Mexico. With all of these hurdles to overcome, NM State still made a run to the WAC Tournament championship game - the ninth-consecutive time the program had done so.

In his role as video coordinator, McClurg's primary role for the Aggies includes analyzing statistical performance evaluations for the team as well as its opponents. In addition to that, the Paterson, N.J., product aids in opponent scouting. Now, he will oversee many of the logistical and travel aspects for the squad as its Director of Operations.

Through his time associated with the program, NM State produced 19-game winning streaks in each of his first two seasons with the program, matched its longest winning streak in program history (21 games from 2019-21), won two WAC regular season titles and posted an enviable 67-19 (.779) overall record.

McClurg native came to Las Cruces after spending the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant on the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball staff. While in Ruston, La., McClurg played a role in scouting opponents and compiled reports for the coaching staff. He also developed workouts for players during the offseason as well as new evaluation methods for players and line-up combinations.

Prior to his time with the Bulldogs, McClurg worked under Buzz Williams at Virginia Tech during his undergrad as a student manager from 2014-17. With the Hokies, McClurg had several responsibilities that included advanced scouting of future opponents, in-game analysis for coaching staff in addition to scheduling and oversight of social media content for the Buzz Williams Team Camp.

During his time in Blacksburg, Va., the Hokies made three-consecutive postseason appearances, including back-to-back NCAA Tournament (2015-17) as well as three-straight seasons with 20-plus wins.

McClurg graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science in computational modeling and data analytics in 2017.
