Biography
2010-11 (Freshman)
In his first season in Las Cruces, Herig made an appearance in 10 games. He scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished two assists in 2010-11. Herig recorded a 42.9 field goal percentage (3-of-7), 50.0 3-point field goal percentage (2-of-4) and 66.7 free throw percentage (2-of-3). In the 78-46 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State (Dec. 16), Herig scored a career-high six points, including a 2-for-3 showing at the 3-point line, and boarded a career-high three rebounds. In only his second WAC appearance, Herig recorded four points and his first career steal in the 82-64 victory over Hawai’i (Jan. 13).
High School
Herig joined the Aggies from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M., after four-year career with the Matadors. As a senior, Herig was the only player in 5A to rank in the top 10 in points, rebounds and assists, and he was a first team all-district and third team all-metro selection. He average 13 points, six rebounds and five assists in 2009-10 and led Sandia to the first round of district. In his junior campaign, Herig averaged 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. He guided the Matadors to the first round of the state tournament and was a second team all-district selection. As a two-year team captain, he started in every game at point guard in both his junior and senior seasons. Herig played for the New Mexico Force AAU team.
Personal
Herig is the son of Andrew and Lisa Herig, and he has a younger brother, Alex. Herig was born in Albuquerque, N.M, and he is majoring in business management.
