Biography

2011-12 (Senior)

Laroche concluded his career as a major factor in the Aggie record books. As a senior, he started in all 36 games for a total of 135 consecutive games started, which was every single game for the Crimson and White for the past four seasons. Laroche left Las Cruces as the school record holder in not only games played (135) but also minutes played (4,417) and career steals (216). He joined the Aggie 1,000-point club as its 29th member in his final season and finished as No. 15 on the all-time scoring list with 1,209 career points. Laroche also ended his career ranking second in career assists (552) and tied for 10th in career free throws made (287). He earned second team All-WAC honors after averaging 11.9 points and 3.8 assists per game. Laroche led the Aggies in assists (136), steals (64), which also led the WAC, and 3-point field goal percentage (40.4), while he ranked eighth in the league in assist to turnover ratio (1.68). He shot 44.9 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from the free-throw line. In his final campaign, Laroche directed the Aggies to their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance after their second WAC Tournament title in three years, and he was named to the WAC All-Tournament team. In 2011-12, Laroche posted 22 double-figure scoring games including a pair of 20-plus point games. He opened the season with a 13-point and five-assist game at Northern Colorado (Nov. 12). Laroche began WAC action with six straight double-digit games that culminated with a season-high 21 points against Nevada (Jan. 26). He was 7-of-15 from the field versus the Wolf Pack including 4-for-7 from behind the arc. In the stretch, Laroche also scored 20 points against Idaho (Jan. 14) during the WAC home opening weekend. He had another string of six consecutive double-digit games that started at Utah State (Feb. 11). Laroche scored 16 points in a nationally televised game on ESPN2 and helped the Aggies to their first win in Logan, Utah, since 2006. Laroche also contributed seven assists, three steals and a blocked shot, for one of the best defensive plays of the year. Late in the second half, Laroche was tripped up at mid-court but recovered to block a Preston Medlin 3-pointer, grab the rebound and race down court for a fast break lay-up. The win also sparked the Aggies to nine wins in the final 11 games of the season.

2010-11 (Junior)

Laroche started in all 33 games as a junior for a consecutive 99 games started. He ranked No. 6 on NM State's all-time list for minutes played with 3,209 after the 2010-11 season. Laroche ranked second on the school's all-time career assists list with 416 assists. In 2010-11, he dished 152 assists, a mark that ranks No. 6 on the single-season list, and swiped 62 steals, which ranks tied for No. 5 on the single-season list. Laroche was No. 4 for career steals with 152. Nationally, Laroche ranked No. 49 for steals per game (1.9) and No. 70 for assists per game (4.6). He also contributed to the offense with 11.5 points per game, which was second best on the team. He shot 43.5 percent from the field (133-of-306), 34.1 from the 3-point line (31-of-91) and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line (84-of-118). He posted 22 double-digit games including his first two 20-point games. Laroche opened the season with 21 points, on 6-of-6 shooting and a career-high 4-of-4 performance from beyond the arc, and eight assists at Louisiana (Nov. 12). He recorded five or more assists in 17 games including eight assists at Louisiana, against Western New Mexico (Nov. 15) and at Boise State (Dec. 31) along with a season-high nine assists at San Jose State (Feb. 23). Laroche had four games with four or more steals including a career-high six steals against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 13). Laroche scored a career-high 24 points with a career-high 14-of-15 showing at the free-throw line in the 96-87 overtime win over Boise State (Jan. 27).

2009-10 (Sophomore)

In his sophomore season, Laroche was yet again a stronghold in the New Mexico State lineup. He stared in all 34 games in 2009-10 and has started in every contest since donning an Aggie uniform. Laroche posted a team-high 125 assists and a 2.08 assist to turnover ratio, which ranked second in the WAC and No. 65 in the NCAA. He ranked No. 8 in assists in the WAC (3.68 per game) and steals (1.35 per game). Laroche posted nine games with five or more assists. He increased his production as a sophomore and averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and was second on the squad in steals with 46. After hitting the game-winning shot over Louisiana Tech (Feb. 8) in Las Cruces, Laroche and the Aggies were No. 4 on ESPN SportsCenter's top plays. In the home opener versus New Mexico (Nov. 17), Laroche scored a season-high 15 points. He set season-high marks in steals (four) at Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 24) and rebounds (eight) against North Carolina A&T (Nov. 26). Laroche recorded nine assists at UCLA (Dec. 15). When the Aggies returned to the Pan American Center from a four-game road swing, Laroche scored 11 points against Alcorn State (Dec. 21). He posted consecutive double-digit games with 11 points against Nevada (Jan. 4) and 14 points at Boise State (Jan. 9). Laroche then recorded a career-high 10 assists against Fresno State (Jan. 16). On the following road trip at San Jose State (Jan. 23), he scored 13 points. In the 70-68 win over Louisiana Tech, Laroche hit the game-winning jump shot with 1.1 seconds left in regulation. In the home finale against Boise State (Feb. 27), Laroche tied a season high with 15 points, for his sixth double-figure game of the year. As a sophomore, he ranked sixth in assists (4.13 per game) and steals (1.56 per game) and fifth in assist to turnover ratio (2.36) in WAC games.

2008-09 (Freshman)

Laroche made an immediate impact for the Aggies as a freshman. He was the only player to start in all 32 games in 2008-09. Running the point, Laroche led the team in assists with 139. He averaged 4.34 assists per game, which ranked fourth in the WAC. Laroche also posted a 2.48 assist to turnover ratio, a mark that was second in the WAC and No. 18 in the NCAA. He was the No. 2 freshman in the country for that performance. Laroche shot 48.3 percent from the field, 46.2 from the 3-point line and 76.1 percent from the free-throw line. He averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Additionally, Laroche tied for the team-high in steals with 44. With four Aggies averaging in double figures, Laroche consistently found the open targets. He had 15 games with five or more assists and only had one game without multiple dishes in his first season. Against Pepperdine (Nov. 21), Laroche collected five assists, for the first time, along with six points. He followed that performance with eight assists at Long Beach State (Nov. 30). In his first-ever rivalry game, a 90-78 win over UTEP (Dec. 14), Laroche posted his first double-digit showing with 10 points on a perfect 8-for-8 free-throw line performance. He continued to make great passes and had a seven-game streak, from Prairie View A&M (Dec. 17) to San Jose State (Jan. 5), with at least four assists. Against Louisiana Tech (Feb. 16), Laroche had a season-high nine assists before he scored 13 points in the ESPNU BracketBuster versus Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 21). In the regular season finale at Hawai'i (March 7), Laroche had 10 points, four steals and three assists on a 5-for-7 shooting performance from the field. Then in the WAC Tournament quarterfinal against Boise State (March 12), he scored a season-high 16 points with five assists. Laroche had his best shooting performance against the Broncos (7-of-12), which were five more attempts than he had taken in a previous game.

High School

Laroche was a first team College AAA selection at Vanier College, a Canadian prep school, in 2007-08 after leading the league in assists and steals while also ranking third in free throw percentage.

In his first season at Vanier, Laroche was named the conference rookie of the year following the 2006-07 season. He was also a starter on the Brookwood Elite AAU team in the summer of 2007 and 2008. In addition, Laroche was one of the top participants at the Nike Canada Top 20 Camp in the summer of 2007.

In 2005-06, he guided Page-Concordia to Montreal Basketball League and Provincial Championships. Laroche was named the league's most valuable player in the juvenile division (17 and under). He then was the starting point guard for the Quebec Provincial team in the summer of 2006.

Personal

He is the son of Joseph Laroche and Jeanne Pierre. Laroche earned a bachelor's degree in government in May 2011.
