Biography
2004-05 (Junior): In his first season with the Aggies, Mitchell started 29 of 30 games and was the club's second leading scorer at 12.3 points per game while leading the team in steals with 40. He finished the year ranked second on the team in assists with 87 and third on the team in rebounding with 133 total boards. As junior, Mitchell connected on 43.5 percent of his attempts from the field and ranked second on the team in three pointers made with 51. He ended the year shooting 35.2 percent from three-point range while connecting on 70 percent of his free-throw attempts. Mitchell led the Aggies in scoring seven times last season while scoring in double figures on 18 occasions. He had at least two assists in 21 of the Aggies' 30 contests in 2004-05 and registered at least five rebounds 12 times. At the 2004 BP Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska, Mitchell opened his Aggie career in style as he helped lead the Aggies to the championship game with wins over Western Michigan and Northwestern. In the three-game tournament, Mitchell averaged 11 points, 3.3 rebounds and had six assists to just two turnovers. In a win over Midwestern State (Nov. 27), Mitchell recorded his first double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Against New Mexico (Dec. 4), Mitchell erupted for a career-best 24 points against the Lobos at the Pan American Center. In the game, Mitchell was 8-for-14, including 4-of-7 from downtown, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds and four assists in the rivalry tilt. In two games against I-10 rival UTEP (12-18/12-21), Mitchell averaged 12 points and 5.5 assists. In a homecoming of sorts, Mitchell led the Aggies with 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists at Texas-San Antonio (Jan. 3). In front of friends and family, Mitchell made a career-best five three pointers while adding two steals on the defensive end. Heading into conference play, Mitchell didn't miss a beat as the guard scored in double figures in each of the Aggies' first five Sun Belt contests.
2002-2004 (Hill College): Before joining the Aggies last season, Mitchell played two seasons at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. As a sophomore, Mitchell was named a Preseason All-American and averaged 22 points, nine assists and four steals per game. He ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring and in the top five in assists and steals. He earned his second straight first team All-Conference honor and was named All-Region 5. As a freshman, Mitchell averaged 16 points, eight assists and four steals per game. He was named first team All-NTJCAA (Northern Texas Junior College Athletics Association) and was invited to play in the NJCAA Freshman All-Star game.
High School: Mitchell was a four-year letterwinner at Taft High School in San Antonio, Texas. He was named first team all-district his junior and senior seasons at Taft after averaging 20 points and seven boards per game.
Personal: Mitchell was born in San Antonio, Texas and is the son of Bernice Mitchell and Michael Tease. He is majoring in Family & Child Sciences at New Mexico State University.
